African American Literature Final Exam During the development of America, there was the development of various characters that were the voices of the people. They acted as advocators for the rights of the people preferably the oppressed; amongst all races. This is a population that consisted of a series of activists and political figures that ranged from local citizens to educationists and high profile politicians.In line with the state of high prejudicial emotions among the people of America, there was a rise in oppression due to this prejudice.

Not only were people oppressed by the other races, but they also oppressed each other interracially due to the association with other races. Zora puts herself in the shoes of a martially oppressed woman who faces harsh conditions from the community because of her association with the white populations. This is not justified and should not be so. Just because the character Zora works for the whites the whole community seams oppressive towards her leading to marital problems. Nobody seems to consider that, through her work for the white people; she can fend for her family including the husband who is so against her work even to the extent of beating and cheating on her (Hurston 40).

This behavior is extremely hypocritical especially for a community that is supposedly racially oppressed and facing poor living standards.It is a fact that before people open their mouths to blame their misfortunes on others; they should look at their own state first. Taking into account the play; The Rising Sun by Lorraine, the family in question ends by their own demise. They consider living in a new and foreign racial place a burden, but eventually they cannot even plan for what is theirs.

They lose the inheritance cheque and face even greater misfortunes out of their own miscalculations (Hansberry 24). When we want to end racial prejudice we should first believe ourselves that it has ended. For this reason, people should be the change that they want to see. If one does not believe the change and act in accordance to it, how do they expect others to do the same?The best way to try and bring a change into the world is to know and understand one’s origins. As such, the history of an issue plays a substantive role in determining the future of the same aspect.

In spite of this, it is vital that the history be true and not exaggerated. Being true to change that we want, and that will fulfill ones objectives first require that we be true to ourselves and to others. As such, though Harriet’s book on The Incidence of a Slave Girl tries to emulate the aspects of the past to shape the future, it should be truthful and unexaggerated (Jacobs 6). The readers and reviewers should also try and believe it instead of criticisms.Again, any person of any origin or economic background can advocate for rights of all individuals.

Also, everybody despite where they stay or their racial background has the entitlement to all rights as everybody else in accordance to the state they are citizens. Booker T. advocated for this during his life, and he was able to gather support from all races and fulfill his objectives (Washington 36).In society, there is always need to have voices for the community. This is the best way to fulfill communal issues by the community. It is though necessary to check that things do not sprawl out of hand and become volatile.
