Anansi looks like a character mainly a concerned for her own well being but Charlotte risked her life and exhausted herself just to save the life of little Wilber. These folklores are meant to be teaching people lessons in a subtle manner. The animals showed a life pattern similar to humans. Life-threatening problems were faced by them and solutions were also acquired by them, this shows the passion of struggle and courage in animals.
Humans as superior of all creations should learn through the struggles animal put forward for their survival, these characters ignite the heroism in children and adults. Their peculiar characteristics and conversations are similar to humans which made it more effective for humans to learn moral values through them. Every culture needs an inspiring character or trickster, who can stop the arising self-pity in humans and can challenge the usual wisdom. If these characters were humans, they would be less stimulating; as the element of jealousy can overpower appreciation and motivation.
These characters show that animals have patience and courage in dealing with problems and challenges. So as to the superior of all creation, why do humans give up easily? Of course, the story would be a lot more different if the characters were human or different kinds of animals. It would be any other regular story, which would be forgotten. This proverb shows the common characteristic of greed and ungratefulness. One desire for better can never contend. He will strive for me and be unhappy about what he would have in possession.
This eliminates the satisfaction level and keeps a person working for the future; without enjoying the present. This proverb describes the reliance of a person on his friends. People do not pay much heed to the consequences one’s friend’s suggestion can lead to. The dependency and trust can sometimes lead to bigger problems. If a friend is not wise and gives illogical suggestions, better not to keep his company for one’s benefit. On the other hand, an intelligent enemy always keeps one alert and ready for the next move. A man is easily recognized by the company he keeps.
