The author has described the precedent incidents of slavery in details. Details when read in the history bring flashes of the slavery in the minds of the readers. Slavery was enforced manual labor. They used to start their work before the sunrise and worked till the dusk. As soon as the child started understanding the things, the child had to start working and was supposed to work till death or till some deformity or mishap prevents from working. The slaves were required to work underneath the menace of cruelty which could be fatal.

The work carried out was not for livelihood for self, but it was for the slave master, whose life and status in the community could be improved through the slaves output and efforts. In a natural manner one works for the betterment and satisfaction of self. It enhances the skill and thereby better prospects for life could be achieved. On the contrary, during the slavery period, work was penalty or some sort of punishment and the doer was not happy with the work rather sad and disgusted as the work brought distress, pain, fear and anguish which persists in the minds of African- Americans even today and portrays a painful bond.

It is for this reason African-American communities hate to work. It does not give a sense of pride to them that they are working but implies as an act of loser to them. It is a disinclined approach for them and they do it to fulfill their needs. The psychological implications of slavery are so deep that African- American communities just display themselves as successful without actually performing any particular or specified work. This has emerged as an image of the comfortable or prosperous street hustlers and pimps.

This pseudo-cultural approach has inclined them towards gambling and other acts to be rich without doing much effort. In terms of psychology the author explains that some sort of aversion persists in the minds of the present generation of African-American communities and I totally agree with
