Hamlet had been having enough conflicts and struggling with complex emotions and circumstances as a single individual going through a bad teenage crisis, right after his father’s death (Shmoop.com).
The story is a typical revenge plot that encircles around taking avenge from the murderer of the King. Hamlet soon came to know about his father’s murderer but he took quite a long to execute his actions in the play as an avenger. Hamlet was hesitant in taking revenge on his father’s murderer as his uncle married his mother and became the king and his real brother could never kill his father as perceived by others, it was impossible to charge any allegation against the supreme powers. He was also not in a position to brief others about the criminal act and mela-fide intentions of the original murderer and villain because of his confused mental state and the king’s authority. After taking into account all the facts, he had to do something entirely on his own in pursuit of justice, to unveil the original villain.
Hamlet had been living a disturbed life however he perfectly assumed his responsibility of exposing the villain quite early but had been facing many obstacles to bring the action to a close. He had been thinking of all the barriers that could probably occur between him and the murderer that could be violent as well and about the culmination of personal face-to-face action. Hamlet had to juggle between the array of the excitement of revealing the facts and creating a plot against the killer that needed to be completely infallible as there was no chance of any mistake, loophole, or misplacement of facts and the like. Everything just had to be in its best place and order.

The critics of the play identified three psychological sources of Hamlet’s hesitance and delay in taking revenge on the killer. After he realized the cruel reality of his uncle, he went into a deep depression and considered the world has ended for him, taking the least interest in the world and its affairs and the people around him. He was incapacitated to take abrupt and meaningful action as his state of mind was in midst of a crisis. This had cut down his desire to come forward and make an intelligent move. Secondly, according to the assertions put forth by the critics the character of hamlet lacked balance and stability in his aptitude to think and his capacity to act. He had been in the dilemma of thinking and not executing the role of the doer. Some people regarded his lack of focus and concentration as an internal conflict; his sexual drive probably diverted him continuously from his target and mission. Lastly, hamlet probably took so long in taking revenge on the killer as he was regaining his strength and his identity that supported him, motivated him, and provoked him to take action as depicted in the graveyard scene of the play (Kezdőoldal).
In addition to the above bases, there also had been questionable arguments regarding hamlet’s psychological makeup that prevented him to delay his action. He was not sure whether to accuse his blood, a relative of his father’s murder, as an apparition (Hamlet’s father’s ghost) has told him to do so. Hamlet had to take care of external obstacles before taking revenge on the killer. He was in a position that did not allow him to take the charge of the situation and prevented him to delay his acts for the right time, for an opportune second.
