All over the proposed study, it is outlined to discover various literary metaphors in order to elaborate the styles, thematic and classic amalgamations which writer has endeavored to convey. Furthermore, here it will be underlined about the actions and configuration of the plot of the story. For instance, here we would go to find out the intuitive intention for what the piece of writing came in to being. Literature is the means of creating awareness about social problems prevailing in the society silently (Samier n. p.).
“The Overcoat” is a combination of emotional compress as well as administrative critique. The behaviors are well discussed in the story. The story evolves around a main character named Akakiy Akakievitch Bashmatchkin. He worked as copy pasting clerk. Along with the main character, the main concern of the story is the overcoat of Akakiye. Akakiye used to wear an old coat, of what all his peers and colleagues made fun frequently. He planned to get a new one but it was out of his range because of his limited income.
He decided to strict his budget to get a new coat. After sometime, with his savings and some salary plus bonus, he was able to buy a new coat. With his tailor, he went to market and bought finest material available in the market according to his affordability. His tailor prepared a very impressively designed coat for Akakiye as he was used to discuss with him frequently. Colleagues of Akakiye arranged a party in the honor of his new coat. When he was returning home after attending the party, he encountered with some street robbers who beaten him hardly and threw him in snow after snatching his coat.
He was suggested to see an influential person to recover his coat, he did the same. But that person was not concerned to resolve the mater as it was not much substantial. After a long time of wait, Akakiye went to the influential person again who behaved transgression. He, sadly, came back and fell ill. After some days, he died and turned in to ghost. His ghost used to snatch coats from people at specific places One day the ghost snatched the coat from the same influential person and beaten him as well.
After that incident, the ghost disappeared and never observed again. Writer stressed on materialism, socialism, behaviorism, criticism, asterism and emotionalism. All the isms used in the story have distinguishable and very influential critically important in the story. The literature which allows educational terms and enforcements indulged in it is found seldom (Simkins n. p.). Often educational literature is ignored along with emotions and drama. But Russian story tellers are well recognized for the art of mingling educational literature with drama and fiction as you can observe in the climax of the novel when the ghost snatched the coats from people (Hesse and Barnor, n. p.).
The thematic concerns in the story are highly socially valued. First the most emphasized one is class difference and oppression of influential ones; it is about how the influential ones in the story dominated and transgression the endeavors of Akakiye while searching for his coat. Next theme is bureaucratic ineffectiveness in the context of Akakiye’s case and definitely they were used to deal these sorts of matters in the same way.
