The art gallery of Arvada Center has adequate lighting. This was especially in the areas that had the artistic pieces. This enables one to look at the small details that can go unnoticed. Therefore, it was a beautiful experience looking at the artworks in the Arvada Center. The Play Pals is a type of ceramic made by Patti Warashina. It stood out from the rest of the art works in the Arvada Center as the piece looked so perfect and the two play pals have a hidden look from the one they displayed.

The approximate dimensions of the ceramics are height, 30? ? 35.5? ? 15?. The ceramics were made by clay prepared from very low heat. The hues that dominate the ceramics are blue, black, white and red. The red is mainly at the tips of the sculptures. This is the mouth areas, feet and hands. The colors that are vital in the sculpture are white (Mamiya & Kleiner, Pp. 3). This is because it attracts the most attention when one looks at the ceramics. The arrangement of the colors form a pattern Black, blue and white-which are the outstanding hues, alternate with one another.

For example at the heads of the Play Pals, the black hue alternate with the white hue and towards the feet, the black hue alternate with the white hue. This makes the piece to have a complementary color scheme. I believe that the brighter color, which is white, is more vital in the piece. This is because the ceramics has outstanding dull colors and it covers large parts of the ceramics. Therefore, the white color makes the picture brighter and cooler. The piece has some areas where the hue is more saturated than in other places.

For example, the red hue is more saturated as one moves towards the fingers and towards the feet. The artists, Patti Warashina chose the hues very well and produced a beautiful piece. The shapes of the ceramics are not very convincing. This is because the shape of the arm and its length is not similar to the shape of the legs. This is also similar to the length and shape of the abdomen and that of the head. The arms seem longer than the feet and the stomach seems a bit too heavy for the ceramic that resembles a dog.

This makes the piece look unreal and dead. The outlines of the ceramics of Patti Warashina are clear and smoothly produced. This is especially for the arms of the two play pals that move towards each other (Mamiya & Kleiner, Pp. 3). I believe that it must have been a challenge to create smooth, clear outlines especially for the places that the arms of the pals meet. The positive space of the ceramics is bigger than the negative space. This is because the space between the two ceramics is not as big as the space occupied by the ceramics.

This attracts attention and makes the piece to stand out. The smile and playful look of the two ceramics have a hidden meaning. The look that the play pals display resemble that of the Monalisa smile. Behind the playful and joyful smile, the play pals have a mocking look as if making fun of the people that are viewing them. The reaction that I had when I first saw the Play Pals was that of carefree fun. They look as if they are so much engaged in their games. One of the Pals has a ball in his head and can still play with the hands of his pal.

The pals have three balls and this means that they can engage in many games before they get bored. The piece also speaks of a friendship that knows no boundaries. The two pals do not resemble each other, one is a dog and the other one is a human being. Never the less they are so happy with each other
