? Argument Analysis on Fatherhood Argument Analysis on Fatherhood Fatherhood is the act where a male parent takes his responsibility for his offspring in all aspects. This includes the provision of love, care and concern. This is coupled up with material responsibility towards his offspring’s. This ensures that the offspring has a perfect avenue for growth. Fatherhood is a beautiful experience. It should be taken in with relish. In many instances, fatherhood can be a pain just like any other part of life. This is especially the case when the children are not doing as is expected of them. Another instance where fatherhood is painful is when the father experiences very many problems that hinder his ability to be the perfect father. These problems could be physical, financial or even emotional. The father is an important figure in society and that is why he has a special day set aside for him. This day is a celebration of the efforts, milestones and the aspects of masculinity that he contributes to the overall growth of his offspring. This brings in a well balanced and happy family that has great expectations for the future (Lisa, 2007). The article aims to understand what has changed in relation to fathers and their interactions with their spouses and children. The man has slowly been changed into a role that he himself does not understand. Is it the society or the men themselves that do not know the role that they play in the society? The author offers many instances where the man has been challenged and rebuked at the same time for his actions. The author aims to understand what makes a man? In the past a man was strongly identified by his abilities to cater and provide for his family. He worked very long hours to ensure that his spouse never got stressed working. All her energies were channelled into raising their child. He had to ensure that the child went to the right school at the right age. He also ensured that while the child was at it, he or she never lacked anything. In the past, the role of the father was to contribute to the growth of the child. This was mostly in material ways. Many of the fathers back then never voiced their emotions. This is the sole reason as to why some sat back and could not even change diapers. They could not care for the significance of baby showers and in many instances; they never participated in the general process of delivery. The author goes ahead to indicate that this group of fathers are slowly being faced out of the world today. This is with the adoption of new interacting mechanisms between fathers and their children. The modern father takes time to look after their offspring. They change diapers; they feed and even clean their children. There are very many reasons that led to this. One was the feminist movement that took the world by storm. The second one was the realisation by the men that they were missing out on a lot in regards to their children (Lisa, 2007). The women wanted to work. They did not fancy staying at home and taking care of the children all the time. This did not mean that they did not love their children; they wanted economic stability as well. This gave rise to the stay at home dads. They are the ones responsible for all the home economics. They have to have systems in place to ensure that everything runs smoothly. This is from the financial aspect of home management to dropping and picking their children from school. This is however raising a lot of debate in many circles (Lisa, 2007). Is there something wrong with a man who has chosen this path? Is he different from the one that was tasked with the responsibility of climbing the social ladder and bringing home the bacon? What is the relationship of stay at home dads and their spouses? Does his inability to work for whatever reason make him less of a man? What are the society’s thoughts in relation to stay at home dads? The society has in many instances been very biased in the way that it deals with issues around it. The author sees this too and takes the time to analyse a couple of issues. The society stigmatises the men that have chosen this path. There is absolutely no reason to do so. This is because the man has an innate ability to take care of his family. This is seen in the way that they approach the workplace. If they can do this at the workplace, what is so wrong in them ensuring that they are the glue that bonds the family at home? The father could be the essential link that ensures that the family is united at all time. The active involvement of fathers and their children is seen in the way that they interact freely with their children. Fathers are nowadays taking the time off to encourage and just love their children. This does not show any form of inadequacy in them. If anything, it has been observed that instances where the father has been actively involved in the lives of his children, they have excelled marvellously (Lisa, 2007). In every home, the father is a symbol of authority. The author notes that the father is the voice of reason. This is because in many instances, he is not easily affected by emotions. The stability of his emotions enables the man to make the most perfect decisions in many circumstances and situations. He is also a security symbol. The father has the overall aim of complimenting the role that is carried out by his wife. Their ability to compliment each other at the workplace and at home ensures that the children have a peaceful environment to call home. They are able to grow lovingly as children with respect for their parents and siblings (Lisa, 2007). The father is an essential guide that takes time to implement and offer knowledge and skills for his entire family. The author notes that when children are growing up, the father never softens when he speaks to his children. This has a great significance to the overall growth of the child. They grow up confident and with the ability to express themselves as they should. In conclusion, it is important to note that the duty, roles and responsibilities of the father do not change because of his circumstances. His overall capabilities of being a man and spouse do not change just because he does not have a job or he is disabled. The man does not change just because he is a stay at home dad. If anything their abilities as men are heightened. Stay at home dads should be celebrated because of the choices that they have made. They should not be stigmatised by the society or disrespected by their spouses. The mother has been staying at home for very many decades. It was what was considered normal. But normal does not obviously mean the only thing. Fathers who have taken the time to nurture their children should be respected. This is whether he takes some time off work to be with his family or he made a deliberate and guarded choice to stay away from the workplace to take care of his children. What makes a man is his ability to stand by his family irregardless of the situation, circumstance or popular opinion.
