The book, Societal Suicide captivates enough analysis of the fact that makes a man compelled and responsible for the suicide both form the societal and familial perspectives. In order to draw a thorough analysis of this fact, Segura largely drew experiences and factors from real life which is undoubtedly shaped by the self-esteem of the author. And the narration clearly indicates that the feeling of a cultural-racial fact that has culminated into an enduring legacy is well experienced by the author who considers himself one of the proud members of the community. The element of self esteem of the author operating throughout the document, “Societal Suicide” is strong as many personal elements shape the book. Personal exploration for the investigation of the roots of suicide for the Mexicans living in the United States is quiet pertinent in this book. Author Julian Segura Camacho was able to look after his personal development and improve his well being. Along with this, he was successfully able to protect his community from this acute socio-psychological problem within his limited potentials and capacities. He was successful in adding value to the society, community and system. Answer 4 Chapter 19 of the book, “Societal Suicide” bears the title, “Tengo Coco”. It deals with myriad social pressures and identical crises. The struggle encountered by a Mexican American in a heterogeneous society of America is pertinently discussed in the chapter. Education and modernization of America could not do away with the fact that homogenous identities need to take some extra effort in order to maintain the existential discourse in the society. Education and other factors that draw the equality in the society are not essentially the same parameter for the indigenous person to establish equality even within the cosmopolitan society. This was explicitly discussed and explored by drawing personal experience from the author’s life in this chapter. Author Julian Segura Camacho had to endure and confront enough struggle to establish his identity in the cosmopolitan society of California despite of his well-educated background. Only for his ethnicity, he had to be kept at bay several times with respect to proper job and that was the naked and most pathetic part of American society and American Dream at the greater realm.
