Lawn Tennis A Glamorized Game Women participation in sports is at rise for last few decades and today their representation is available in almost all sports without any bar of gender. Women from all age brackets are proving their skills, no matter what rigor and training they have to undergo to achieve distinctions in their respective sports. However, age is a considerably significant factor in sports that require a plenty of rigor and mental toughness. These sports despite being glamorous may introduce some restraint for women with upper age limits.
The age limits for sports participation are not very strict but these limits definitely have an impact on the amount of physical and mental labor that can be put in by the participants. Lawn Tennis falls under the same category of sports that are highly glamorized because of the fame and money we can earn from the game but it require a strong body, rigorous training and a higher degree of mental toughness. The overwhelming glamour of lawn tennis is attracting more and more females towards the game and they are aiming at higher world rankings to ensure their share from the glamour of the game.
However, it is easier said than done. It takes at least a decade of rigorous pursuit to reach those heights where we can touch the glamour that allure us. Historically, women have proved their valor and nerve in the game because success embraces those who monastically dedicate their energies for the attainment of the heights they dreamed before stepping into the lawn tennis courts. “Althea Gibson was the first American-African allowed in U.S. Open Championships in 1950.” (Barlowe, 2010). This was simply a marvelous achievement for a woman sixty years ago.
Since then, tennis has witnessed many stars who emerged quite early in their age. Lawn tennis is a very demanding sport as far the training and rigor are concerned. It requires an unparallel commitment, top level physical fitness, mental vigor and strength. An early and serious start together with long and tough practice sessions are imperative for successful achievement of objectives. Because this rigorous training may be stretched over several years, it’s not all that easy to be a women tennis star.
More often than not the rigor involved in emerging and excelling in the game proves just too much for players with lack of will, endurance and commitment. Obviously, the glamour had instigated their entry into the game but this part of the game came very late in the career of a professional player. Lawn tennis requires a very strict discipline to ensure physical fitness in and beyond the tennis courts. Tennis stars have to meet tough gym, diet, walk and court routines and none of these requirements can be neglected for long.
This discipline might be little tougher for a woman in her late 20’s than for an adolescent in her 17’s. Usually, the training for lawn tennis starts at an age of 12-13. The initial two to three year play an important role in building up the stamina of the youngsters. The major part of this training period concentrates over the physical strength through gym and running exercises. The age factor is a core concern for tennis star in her late 20’s because of the fitness issues begin to mount if you are a little relaxed with your tough fitness schedule.
A long stretched game might test your physical fitness quite intensively and it is only the stamina build through the rigor you have endured before stepping into the court that can guarantee your success. However, mental toughness is equally important to stay firm at your toes and keep the head up while facing a challenging competitor at the other end of the court. Apart from the glamour of the game, the lawn tennis has also been used for glamour in real sense. But this obviously came later in their voyage into the world of tennis and has nothing to do with the rigor the ladies had already undergone.
Glamour come bundled with the ownership of top titles but the efforts and hardships to reach these positions are often misjudged. Despite being glamorous, lawn tennis requires a very strong body and lasting courage to meet the challenges at times. The efforts and rigor that the game demands beyond the courts are seldom gauged correctly by the people who are allured by its glamour.
