II. What elements of Christian ministry are highlighted in these readings? ?The Luke passage (Luke 4:16-21) highlights the commission given to prophets and ministers to serve the poor and afflicted, which is a cross-reference to the Old Testament passage in Isaiah 61:1-2. Similarly, James 2:14-17 emphasizes the importance of reinforcing faith with good deeds to prove that one is a true Christian. For example, the physical needs of people are important and the diligent Christian needs to consider these things too, and not neglect peoples’ physical needs even though one’s calling is spiritual.
In that regard, Christian ministry is highlighted because of its call to serve the downtrodden and take care of peoples’ earthly needs too. III. How could Luke 16:19-25 be a commentary on today's society? What action response is suggested? ? The people who had a hard life in their earthly life will receive rewards in heaven. This means that one should not focus on getting rich in life, but that they are working for a greater reward which is heaven, and working for their earthly masters as for the Lord.
The action response suggested is to not worry so much about how much money one has but that one will definitely receive rewards for one’s good deeds in heaven even if one does not necessarily become rich on earth. However, if one does receive earthly riches, it is important that those riches are used wisely—because as stewards of God’s goodness the Christian needs to be responsible with his or her resources in all cases. IV. How does your service relate to the elements of ministry in these passages?
You should give specific examples of people ?you have met and experiences in serving them. With regard to the Luke 4 passage, I identify strongly with the fact that I have a calling to serve disabled children. For purposes of anonymity, I chose not to reveal names. However, I have had many moments serving children which deeply touched my heart and I realize that my life should be dedicated to serving their needs as best as I can, since God has given me the gift of this ministry. With regard to the James 2 passage, I identify with that passage very strongly because often I take care of students’ physical needs.
I identify with the Luke 16 passage because many times both the people who minister as well as the people who are ministered to are not very rich necessarily. V. Concluding Prayer (Conclusion) Dear God,?? First, I would like to praise you for having the name which is above all names. Thank you for allowing me to help children who have various special needs, and allow me to know how to best serve them. Although I cannot name everyone individually, I pray that you would extend your loving hand to those to whom I minister.
I thank you for having helped me realize the power that I have through you, Jesus, to help people and be that loving hand with a physical presence when you are there in spirit. I ask that you help me to carry out all my responsibilities with these children, having fallen in love with providing godly-inspired services for children who have cerebral palsy and other kinds of special needs which
