At the outset of the story, the readers are introduced with a set of supernatural occurrence that takes place around the protagonist of the story, Mrs Drover, who received a letter from her past lover dated presently who was presumed to be killed in the previous war. The story obviously culminates on the medieval ballad centring round the stories of the demon lovers who used to abduct their lovers on the ground of infidelity after their death but this mere fact does not label “The Demon Lover” as a simple supernatural story. At the beginning of the story itself, the readers are introduced to Mrs Drover, the protagonist of the story who is a bit clumsy in her appearance and confused with the dates of the war. Secondly, she visits her old home in London which was being evacuated for the reason of bombing by Germany. Mrs Drover is shown threatened by some unknown fear and seems to be chased with the brunt of the memory associated with her past life which gets evoked after visiting her old home. The description of the day when Mrs Drover visits her old home and the kind of language deliberately used for the purpose of description evokes a dark feeling of foreboding chased by an unknown figurine almost making the atmosphere “ink-dark”. Authoress describes the day, "It was late August; it had been a steamy, showery day: At the moment the trees down the pavement glittered in an escape of humid yellow afternoon sun. ...Download file to see next pagesRead More

The Story of Joan of Arc

As like any other hero in history, Joan of Arc is brave and has that sheer determinism that helps her in her struggles against the English. She is also admirably loyal to Dauphin - the due King of France, and manages to win a coalition with the Governor of Vaucouleurs and Chinon’s courtiers. She finally leads the famous Battle of Orleans where the Burgundians betray her. Joan of Arc has a tragic fate as the young leader is seized, tortured and eventually burnt at the stake, however history soon immortalises the young heroine as she is later labelled a Catholic ‘saint’.

Before one could possibly comment on the cinematography of the movie the fact that Fleming’s Joan of Arc managed to receive...

Analysis of the News Story about Fidel Castros Recovery

Fidel Castro's personality has two sides, one is shaped inside Cuba and the other one outlined outside Cuba, especially in relation to The United States of America.

On July 31, 2006, Fidel Castro announced that he was transferring the power to Raul Castro, because of intestinal surgery. On August 6, 2006, Castro presented a material, a letter for his people in which he was calming down the Cubans and all those who were worried about his health. This news was formed by several parts: a message, apparently written by Fidel, but read by his brother, some images with him after the surgery and the statements of some friends.

Even if the objectivity is controversial(thing demonstrated by the way in which Cuban sour...

The Ways in Which Shakespeare Is Able To Tell Us a Dramatic Story of Macbeth

The first group of characters which are introduced to the audiences are the three witches who come across as forbearers of the story. The setup the situation for their meeting with Macbeth after the battle has been won and lost. Of course, at this point, the audience has little idea about the battle which will be won by one side and lost by the other and neither do they know about Macbeth. However, even from these words, it can be assumed that Macbeth would be the winner of the coming battle since the witches will meet him after a battle has been won and lost. Macbeth could not meet them if he lost the battle and resultantly died.

This foreshadowing is confirmed in Act 1, Scene 2 where the injured soldier confirms that...

The Google Story by Mark Malseed

The Google Story is more than just the history of a successful company; it is a story about two college kids with a vision that held to their principles to become the rulers of the dot-com mountain.

Beowulf: The Poem, Its Background and Its Style

Despite its age and seeming isolation, the Beowulf poet seems to have been familiar with the Christian religion and its symbols. Perhaps because it was written down by scribes, who were most likely associated with the church, it gained its Christian concepts or perhaps these symbols from the Old Testament were present in the poem beforehand. An examination of the Christian overtones and fundamental principles of the story reveals that the Old Heroic Code actually had much in common with the Christian ideals and provides a context by which the modern world can begin to see how the Christian religion incorporated itself into ancient English society. The behavior of characters in an epic such as Beowulf typically makes a clear distin...

The Romanticized Perspective of the Bonnie and Clyde Story

Bonnie and Clyde, pictured below personified the hard-edged image that Bonnie and Clyde earned for their 1930s crime spree.
