ID Lecturer Julian Assange should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law Introduction to Julian Assange Julian Assange is an Australian editor, publisher, journalist and an activist. He has gained worldwide popularity due to his role within the WikiLeaks. He served as the editor-in-chief of WikiLeaks which published secret information to a global audience. As a teenager, Assange was a hacker and after that turned into a computer programmer before his work with WikiLeaks became famous. This debate is against Julian Assange being prosecuted to the full extent of the law merely because he leaked vital communication amongst global leaders and played an intelligent role at suggesting the hidden nuances within world affairs. Julian Assange is a global hero as he has received attention and acclaim from nearly all nations of the world. He is portrayed as a celebrity yet villain too at times. What is WikiLeaks? WikiLeaks is an international, not for profit and online organization that has the task of publishing secret information, news leaks and media classifications from a number of sources, most of which remain anonymous. The website for WikiLeaks was started in the year 2006 in Iceland by Sunshine Press. It claimed of having more than 1.2 million documents when it kicked off. The website is currently active and is wrongly associated with Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation. There were releases related with the Afghanistan war, the corruption in Kenya, the Iraqi invasion by the US-led allied forces, the Guantanamo Bay detention camp routines, the US State Department diplomatic cables and so on. In essence, what WikiLeaks did was to stir up the emotions of the people as they came to know what the people at the helm of affairs thought of the world in the most heinous sense. How Julian Assange became a hero? Julian Assange gained popularity worldwide when he and his teammates published some of the most significant news stories over the website and to the media. This came as a shock for the entire world and more so for the various governments who ran from pillar to post to deny their involvement. In the beginning it was thought that the Julian Assange-led WikiLeaks did not have any credibility and that it would fade away with the passage of time but the exact opposite happened (Rogers, 2010). People started to take interest within the news stories and leaks as they came about and thus this business began to make waves for all the wrong reasons. What it eventually did was to make sure that Julian Assange came out as a hero who opened the eyes of the people with regards to their respective governments (Karhula, 2012). The manner in which Julian Assange exposed the major international organizations and the people that are working under their domains is something that can easily be bracketed as an act that no one else could have done. Julian Assange fought for the sake of the people and told them straight what the world’s leaders and decision makers were doing behind closed doors. In other words, Julian Assange was instrumental at telling the global audiences how wrong they were with regards to certain international events and how their perspectives have been beefed up by media outlets and organizations (Bradner, 2007). Julian Assange was able to tell all these aspects in a clear cut fashion as he released several cables that spoke for their own selves. His leaks told the world what was taking place and how people were aloof of these circumstances and situations for a long period of time now. The immediate reaction of the US government and many other state machineries was that they came up with their respective denial statements even though the leaks were very credible and showed the true nature of these global bodies. Eventually the world’s biggest leaders and organizations had to revert back and agree that they were indeed involved in such practices for quite a while (Meikle, 2011). Thus there is no reason why Julian Assange should be taken to task under the aegis of the law because he did something worthwhile for the sake of the people of this world. He was able to showcase the true spirit of one world where there are no boundaries and litigations. Conclusion It is a fact that Julian Assange still remains a hero to this day. Even though he has been charged with a number of undertakings on his part, the fact remains clear that Julian Assange brought the world to a new platform through WikiLeaks. He instilled in the people a sense of knowing what is going on behind the scenes rather than comprehending to hearsay. He asked of them to study the role of the global organizations and come up with their own viewpoints because this is the basis of humanity if seen from a corrective standpoint (Riddle, 2012). To sum up the discussion on Julian Assange, it would be fair to comment that no international law making body would be able to prove that he is an individual who did something insane. In fact he is one committed individual who made sure that people knew what was taking place behind events of a global stature. Julian Assange exclaimed that people ought to know more than they do on a regular basis because they have a right to be well informed at all times. Holding him guilty for the mistakes of people who are sitting in coveted positions is not his mistake and thus he should not be made as a scapegoat at all (Greer, 2011). In the end, it would be an honest opinion that Julian Assange should be set free because he brought sanity to this world through his actions and undertakings. He must not be taken wrongly for what he did; rather his actions should be understood and interpreted in the light of what has happened before through the global leaders and their misgivings for a long period of time now (Rothacker, 2010). One cannot do two wrongs to make sure that they come up with a single right. There has to be a basis for finding out where anomalies exist and how these will be addressed. References Bradner, S.
