The people who are unable to sustain up to this level are considered to be poor and consequent can thereby be framed into a definition. Like as per the international standards or conventions, people who are earning less than US$ 1 a day will be categorized as poor. This kind of consideration means that a particular person earning less than a dollar a day does not have the income level sufficient enough to meet the minimum needs for maintaining a decent lifestyle. The basic facts regarding poverty reveal some of the stunning records of the post-liberalized modern world.

The lion share of the percentage of people living below the poverty line is concentrated in Southern Asia and it comprises of 43.1% of the total world poor. According to the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD), 4.4 billion people dwell in the Less Developed Countries (LDCs) and it consists of the largest proportion covered by the impoverished part of the society. Out of this huge mass of developing countries’ population, 3/5th are deprived of basic sanitation structure, 1/3rd of them do not possess any access to clean and hygienic water supply, housing facility is not available to almost a quarter, 1/5th have virtually no access to modern health care services, similar amount of children are unable to attend or potentially ignorant of the system of attending the classes till the end of the primary education system, also a fifth lack proper level adequate protein and energy base from their food supply.

(Key facts on poverty, n.d.)Poverty has been defined in various ways as mentioned before and there are different sorts of difficulties in measuring the extent of poverty. There has been a continuous range of conventionally located definitions starting from the ‘Absolute’ to the ‘Relative’ sense.
