Executive Order 13224Introduction On September 23, 2011, then the president of the US, George Bush signed an executive Order 13224. The order gave powerful consent to the American Government to impede terrorist funding. This was an effort to reduce terrorist attack, especially after the September 2001 attack on the US soil. The intent of the Executive Order 13224 was to provide a clear avenue through which governments could disorient and cut-off all financial networks linked to terrorist groups.

Therefore, the order allowed the US government to freeze any accounts, seize assets of individuals, companies, and groups that showed sympathy to terrorist groups. The US Secretary of State is authorized, in consultation with the Secretary of the Treasury and the Attorney General to ‘designate foreign individuals or entities that he determines have committed, or pose a significant risk of committing or pose a significant risk o committing acts of terrorism.’ This authority is exercised in situations where such individuals or entities pose a threat to the US security.

In addition, the US Secretary of State is authorized to make all relevant efforts and link with other countries, objectively and laterally, to ensure the purpose of the order is fulfilled. The authority granted to the Secretary of State is important in fighting terrorism because by obtaining relevant information from other like minded governments, it is very easy to collaboratively understand and predict any activities planned by terrorists. Conclusion Giving such powerful orders to the Secretary of State makes it easy to fight any terror activity before it causes any other historical harm.

By closing down and seizing any asset belongs to terrorist sympathizers, financers, hosts, and organizers provide a real framework in eradicating this long-term threat in the US and all over the world.ReferencesU.S. Department of State.
