Law SCENARIO 1 Criminology theories are theories that try to explain the existence of a certain crime in the society. Different crimes are caused by different events, and the society has developed different laws that are supposed to govern them. Failure to follow the set law by the society accrues different punishment. Law is meant to bring order and sanity in the society. The following two scenarios provides the application of the theories of crime. In the first scenario, a prostitute Tanya is complaining to her fellow co-worker about the cops who usually arrest them. Their complaint is that the cops usually arrest them and leave the jerks who are usually with them. In this case, the jerks are their customers who are men. It does not make sense to them, and the observers that the police do not arrest the men given that some of the men are married and therefore leaves their wives for the prostitutes. One of the criminology theory applicable to this scenario is the rational choice theory[RAk09]. In this theory, the assumptions that relate it to the social cause of crime is that of individualism. The lawbreakers look at themselves as individuals, and they have to utilize their time to maximise their opportunities. The maximization of individual opportunity is usually driven by the self-interest that individuals have. The reason why this theory is applicable in this scenario is that of the selfish nature of the prostitutes who choose to go to the street to for the personal benefits of acquiring money from men without considering the fact that some men are married[RAk09]. In the public perspective, the social crime committed by the prostitute is a social device to the society. It is a society that advocates the proper social behavior that only married men and women should participate in the sexual activity. The society also advocates for the proper use of sex that is for procreation. This is the most-encouraged activity for the sexual tool. The prostitutes use the sexual tool as the money making a machine. They are also out there to tame some married men to be their customers. Since the society has put some guidelines about a family that states that the sexual satisfaction must be obtained from their legally married wives, prostitution tends to denounce this legality[RAk09]. The punishment that accompanies this crime is usually short. This is because the law keepers do not see it as a big crime that needs long-term jail. This is because the police usually try to disrupt them from performing the social vice. The law and order administrators usually know that men are also involved in this crime. But they usually consider a wider view of the great effect that can be caused by the prostitutes such as breaking of families, the spread of the sexually transmitted diseases and the negligence of the role men usually perform in their homes. The action of the police to arrest the prostitutes also helps them to fall into the troubles that they may encounter in their activities. For example, the prostitutes claim that men sometimes harass them and robe then off their goods. If the police avoid are arresting them, the men will continue to harass them and therefore the arrest does them better than harm. SCENARIO 2 In the second scenario, we see a senator advocating that union member that are not official workers of the company being threatened that they should not go close to the company building. In fact, it is demanded that they should not move a distance of 100 feet towards the company property. In so doing, the state senator wants to protect the investor who is also a donor to the company. He maybe wants to ensure him that he will be protected in the carrying out of his daily activity and that even the workers union will not have a chance to distract him. The action taken by the senator is a great crime towards the workers. The union workers must always visit the work site where their members are doing the jobs. They usually come to determine the condition of the working place where they are working. If the working conditions are not good, they usually advise the company owner to improve the employees working condition failure to which they can take the company owner to court[RAk09]. The social control theory can fit this scenario. This theory tries to explain why people do not engage in criminal activities. Being close to other members of the social group can make someone not to become a criminal. This is because people who belong to the same social group may find solutions that affect them in their daily routine. They may also have some conventional rules that can ensure they live together in harmony. This theory is applicable to this scenario since workers belong to the same social group and therefore they know what they need to do in order to avoid crimes. The state senator that is a go between the workers do divide them has his agenda that may not concur with their rights. He thinks that dividing them would establish a good condition for the workers but in the real sense, it does not[RAk09]. An implication of the theory is that it was intended to create harmony in the society given that the conditions were fulfilled. In this scenario, when the senator assures the donors that their work will not be interfered with by the union workers gives them the go-ahead to do what they want with the workers. The donors who are the major investors may turn up to humiliate the workers in what may be termed as the modern slavery. This is because the workers will have no one to give their complaints. They may end up doing a lot of work in very poor conditions. Their work may also be not compensated with a good wage. This kind of crime that the senator commits towards the labor sector deserves a lengthy punishment. This is because he had opted to sell the workers into slavery by denying their right of association. To avoid such a situation, he needs to allow the workers' union into the company immediately it opens. This will give them the know-how of the company intention and how it will be running its human resource. Better knowledge will assist the donor and the company to engage in a friendly and professional way leading to better yields.
