Extract of sample "Public Response to US Patriot Act of 2001"

By 2011, there was less public awareness regarding the Patriot Act as compared to how it was shaped up in 2006 or even in 2004. As far as the pros and cons of the Patriot Act are concerned, this act removed the barriers that the law enforcement authorities faced when they had to set up a surveillance on a terrorist they thought was a suspect in a quick fashion (Cleef, 2003).

In the past, without the Patriot Act is in place, this seemed a very difficult thing to do. It also updated a number of wiretapping laws to cope up with the technological era and its changes which were coming up every now and so often. As a point of disadvantage, the Patriot Act stood by a rational assessment as a point of concern since some sweeping powers were allotted to the government to carry out surveillance upon the citizens of the United States which meant less privacy for its own people.
