Antigun control activists assert that disarming the public is not the answer to removing the threat of civilian shootings, but arming those who are in those situations is the answer. For instance, teachers should be legalized to carry guns if it helps to improve their safety since they are often targets of attacks by rowdy students in different locations (Weissert, 2013). This should not only apply to teachers but all the citizens alike if their lives are under threat from assailants who are bent on robbing them of their valuable possessions. In such a case, it can be seen that guns help to protect the safety of the citizens. In the United States, there are more incidents of armed civilians, guards, and off-duty police officers saving people through the use of guns than there are also incidents of armed civilians firing on innocent crowds. In such a scenario, it can be seen that guns are used to protect innocent civilians against violence by other unknown assailants hence stricter gun laws may threaten the safety of the citizens if they are implemented. The use of guns has to be regulated such that only those people with the legal right should use the guns to protect themselves and the members of society rather than to commit crimes using the same guns.

The other reason why I argue against stricter gun laws is that the state must regulate as well as vet the people who are legible to get guns. If the state makes it a law that guns should not be easily accessed by anyone, especially young children, gun violence is likely to be maintained at a lower level. Gun violence can also be reduced if all guns are licensed such that the state can control the activities of the people who are armed with guns. If efforts are put to eradicate all illegal firearms being possessed by different people, it can be seen that the levels of gun violence are likely to decline in different states. Therefore guns should be used by authorized people. This does not mean that guns should be completely banned but their distribution as well as use ought to be regulated so that they do not violate the rights of other citizens to enjoy a peaceful life in their respective states.

Apart from regulating the use of legalized guns, it can also be seen that there is a need to reorient people who possess guns about the appropriate measures they can take when they are using guns. A gun should not be used in all situations unless they are life-threatening. The wanton use of guns is the main reason why people often clash violently. Even law enforcement agents ought to be reoriented so that they fully know how and when to use guns. In some cases, other overzealous police officers just open fire towards the people in case of street demonstrations. This fuels violence since the victims will also seek to revenge if they are shot at for a noble cause. However, in the case of illegal firearms, I think stricter laws should be put in place to bring to book the would-be offenders to ensure peace and tranquility in every state.

Over and above, it can be seen that stricter gun laws are not an effective method of curbing gun violence in different states in America. Measures should be put in place that are meant to ensure that all firearms are legalized and the people in possession of them know how to operate them. If the guns are put to good use, they can play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and security of innocent citizens who are often victims of gun violence in different areas.
