LAW ENFORCEMENT Introduction Security continues to be a very important aspect of social integration. The absence of security brings about fear and unrest among people who are ready to lead independent and cautious live. It is for this reason that it is always important to protect the security interest of all people, especially that of innocent and independent citizens. One way of ensuring that there is security for all is by the enactment of laws that define public regulations and how people are expected to conduct themselves (Spehar et al, 2008).

But often, the presence of the law has been criticized as not being enough in confronting security issues that face the ordinary person. It is in light of this that advocates have pushed for the enforcement of laws as the basic requirement for security, rather than the enactment of law. But before laws can be enforced effectively, it is important to have human resource and personnel on the ground. This brings to discussion the issue of community policing as a mechanism of ensuring that law enforcement is enhanced at a localized status (Kelling and Sousa, 2009, p. 41).Difference made by community policing There is every indication that the presence of the community policing system has caused a lot of positive changes when it comes to the issue of dealing with crime in the area.

If for nothing at all, statistics and available data suggests that the manpower in terms of presence of police personnel was increase from a total of fourteen (14) to eighteen (18). As resources were also made available in the form of the provision of logistics like close circuit television (CCTV) and signposts, the rate of crime reduced drastically (Kelling and Sousa, 2009, p. 45). A very strong highpoint is when the quantitative averages in number of serious crimes per work reduced dramatically upon implementation of the community policing interventions.

Kelling and Sousa, 2009, p. 48Focus on drugs There is no denying the fact that a lot of focus was placed on the prevention of drug related crimes at the intervention stage of the research. However, this could not be considered as a wasteful effort in any since as drug related crimes have often become the basis for several other crimes to be committed (Matisoff et al, 2001). It is for instance a fact that people who deal in drugs always have high demand for money. For this reason, they will be involved in other criminal offences such as robbery and stealing.

Consequently, it becomes almost multi-variable approach to give drug offenses a lot of focus. In the light of all this, the study makes it clear that there were other forms of crimes that were also tackled apart from the drug related crimes. It is not surprising that in the study, there are rooms for both high rate crimes and low rated crimes. Answer to this problemAbove all things, it would be said that there leaves a great deal of work that needs to be done in ensuring that law enforcement achieve its results among various communities.

The real answer to the problem would therefore be the need for the people at the grassroots to realize that they have a collective responsibility in ensuring that crime is curtailed. It should not at any point in time appear that all the responsibility will be left for the security agencies alone. As much as the security agencies like the police play their roles, it is important that the local community give them every needed support that would ensure that security is embraced as a collective effort.

Society’s role should therefore be clearly defined in this regard (Allen, 2001).ConclusionThe absence of law enforcement would continue to mean that the outbreak of lawlessness would abound. It is for this reason that it is always important to have an avenue by which law enforcement is checked. Having identified the need for law enforcement to take a decentralized approached, it is just right that the concept of community policing would be embraced with much rook still created for the need to make amends in improving the quality of service received from community polices.

As a people, it would best to view the challenges that the community police face as one that can rightly be addressed if conscious efforts are made to making their work more professional and more result oriented.
