The job I would prefer to do
I would prefer to work as a Police officer in the law enforcement branch of the criminal justice system. Police officers work to help reduce crime and are directly involved in the fieldwork. It is also important to note that the increased consciousness about security and increase in the population actually have increased the demand for Police officers. The public is becoming more conscious about their security and is willing to work with the police to reduce work. I would therefore be preferring the job of a Police officer.
Degrees & Experience Required
In order to become a Police officer, there are certain requirements that have to be fulfilled before a person can actually join as a Police officer. One of the foremost requirements is the citizenship of the country as no one can be a Police Officer until he or she is a citizen. According to US laws, a person can be a Police officer if he possesses a high school diploma or any other equivalent qualification. He must also not have been convicted of any crime and must possess a valid driving license.
Though there are no experience requirements to join as a Police officer, once recruited, a Police officer has to go through a systematic program of training before actually joining the force as trained law enforcement personnel.
Personality and Christian Faith
One of the critical aspects of my personality is the fact that I like to remain with people and can easily mingle with them. My personality can actually help me to deal with the public easily and extract the information which may be required to reduce crime. It is also my personal philosophy that an individual must be active in the community and contribute positively towards the achievement of community goals. Achieving peace as well as reducing crime rates are two of the things which can actually help the development of a community that is peaceful and tolerant.
It is also according to my Christian faith that every believer is required to work against those who commit crimes. Helping to reduce crime and punishing those who commit it, therefore, is in accordance with Christian beliefs. Besides, it also provides an opportunity for those who are caught by law enforcement agencies to have a chance of rehabilitation. As a Police officer, I will therefore be contributing towards creating an opportunity for those offenders who would like to be rehabilitated and become law-abiding Christians.
Physical Demands
In order to be a Police Officer, one has to go through some rigorous fitness tests. The very nature of the job of a Police officer requires physical fitness and agility. Even after joining the job, Police officers are required to maintain a consistent level of fitness in order to remain fit and agile.
Compensation
The average starting salary for Police offices in the US is around $25,000 per annum. It is, however, important to note that this is not a fixed or rigid starting salary as some States may offer somewhat higher salary bands to Police officers.
Why did I choose?
One of the key reasons as to why I chose this as my current career path is my personal philosophy of helping others and making society free from any type of crime.
