Need for Research in Criminal Justice Part-a In today's context criminal justice and security management have become an integral part of our society. Being a civilized society, we strive to provide justice to all citizens, even if he happens to be a criminal. But at the same time, in order to instill confidence amongst the citizens, there has to be a security system in place which tends to discourage criminal elements from carrying out their operations. The way advancements are taking place in science, technology and IT fields, anti-social elements have become far more modern in their approach in carrying out their operations.

This calls for adopting more advanced approach for preventing the anti-social designs. But at the same time, respecting the civil liberties and human rights of individuals, we need to have a system in place which delivers justice to the sufferer as well as to the perpetrator. Because of its campaign against injustice, USA has been on the hit list of some of the terrorist groups and criminal background elements for quite some time now. Terrorist strike on the twin towers has left an indelible wound on the prestige and sentiments of U.S. But the country is coming to terms with the loss and is in the process of cornering the anti-social elements.

This calls for a unified security system in place, because managing the security in such a manner that citizens do not feel harassed while deterring the criminal elements from carrying out their sinister designs. Therefore there's a need for constant updation on the issue, technically as well as behaviorally. Unlike the good old days, when the mafia dons used to be barely literate, now crime has started attracting the young, educated and qualified professionals. Amongst the bombers and zealots many are doctors and engineers.

This calls for carrying out research on the subject, so that the security and law enforcement agencies feel confident and comfortable in tackling the menace of crime and disorder. Part-b Crime hot spots are the geographical areas where the rates of crime are more than the average rates elsewhere in the region. Such areas need more than average security resources. Formation of such hot spots depends on many factors. For example; The geographical terrain of some particular area might be good enough for the criminal elements to disappear and remain out of bound.

The hot spot could be formed because the region has the potential of growing a particular type of crop like poppy etc. used for making the drugs. The region might have the potential of producing certain types of people, who are known to carry out certain tasks very well. The region might be a boundary area or sea-shore which helps in better connectivity with the outside world. Formation of such hot spots results in concentration of particular types of crimes at particular places, with amazing degree of co-ordination amongst the people involved in such crimes.

Though security agencies happen to be aware about such hot-spots but often their hands are tied as the crime syndicate operates in such a manner that they do not leave enough evidence for prosecution. Therefore while carrying out research on criminal justice and security management issues, such hot spots provide enough scope for studying and analyzing the innovative ways and means of operation of the crime syndicate, which further assists the law keepers to devise matching safety and security measures, so that the criminal activities do not go unchecked.
