The number of these immigrants is alarming since they creating a situation that is exerting a lot of pressure on the economy. The country has also recorded an increase in crimes relating to hate crimes. The hate crimes are specifically prevalent where members of a certain race, group or affiliation have a negative attitude towards another race, group or affiliation. Hypotheses H0: There is no correlation between the high number of illegal immigrants and the high level of hate crimes in xxxx area. H1: There is a correlation between the high number of illegal immigrants and the high level of hate crimes in xxxx area. Main Objective The main objective of this paper will be establish if there is a correlation between the rising number of illegal immigrants in the United States and the high rate of hate crimes. Specific objectives 1, To establish the existence of hate crimes in the US 2. To establish the level of hate crimes in the US 3. To establish the level of illegal immigration in the US 4. To establish the relationship between hate crimes and illegal immigration in xxx, yyyy state of the US. Limitation Owing to the size and population of the United States of America, it would need a lot of resources and time to perform a study that covers the entire country. Under conditions such as these, it is only is reasonable to limit the study to a specific geographical location. This he Background of the study Hate Crimes Sociologists and other experts have defined hate crime generally as crime that is targeted at victims due to their affiliation to particular a social group (Stotzer, 2007). The social group may be defined in terms of disability, sexual orientation, political affiliation, race, religion, class, age, ethnicity, nationality, social status, gender, or gender identity according to Lipman, J. and Francine (2006). Better stated, hate crimes are crimes that are motivated by bias usually taking the form of assault, violence and at the worst, murder. Other forms of hate crime include harassment, bullying, insults, verbal abuse and the use of offensive words in writing or painting, just to mention a few (Stotzer, 2007). Hate crimes inflict a lot of psychological and sometimes physical pain to victims of the crime. It basically infringes on people’s fundamental and civil rights. Statistics show that the United States of America has high rates of hate crimes, the Black Americans commonly being the victims. In fact, out of 8000 reported hate crimes in the US recorded in 1995 by the FBI, about 3000 cases involved Black American victims (Stotzer, 2007). This minority group faced the highest level of victimization in the year. However, this is not to say that Minority groups such as the Hispanics, Muslims, Gays, Jews, Native Americans and Asians do not face a lot of hate crimes. Illegal Immigration in the United States of America Illegal immigration is the act of foreigners violating national immigration laws and/or policies by entering and residing in a place without official authorization (Miller, 2007). Illegal immigrants are naturally aliens. The United States suffers illegal immigration as a result of the wide perception, by people across the world, that the country is a haven of opportunities. As of 2008, the Center of immigration studies estimated that close to 11 million people illegally lived in the US (Bahrampour, 2010)). Other bodies give slightly different statistics relating to illegal immigrants in the country. The Pew Hispanic Center reported in 2005 that about 55% of the illegal immigrants were Mexicans, 3% Africans, 6% Canadians and Europeans, 13% Asians, and 22% Latinos (Passel, 2006). There are many people who have had conducted studies related to illegal immigration and associated problems. According to Miller (2007), illegal immigration had increased violent crimes in the country. This was due to the fact that the immigrants had no permanent jobs and had to look for alternative ways. As it is widely known, man has to get income to survive. It is almost impossible for a person to live without income in his or her life. This triggers the invention of easier ways of earning a livelihood or ways of supporting the life of a person. It will therefore drive a person into committing various crimes and participating in illegal activities that give a rise to insecurity. Similarly, it was hard for them to secure job opportunities since they did not have proper and legal identification. Generally, there normally is an increase in drug circulation in areas that have a high population of illegal immigrants according to Miller (2007). This is because many immigrants involve in the drug trafficking. Illegal immigrants are known to involve in such activities since they generate more lucrative income than any other business. Their identity is normally hidden making it a better position of transacting illegal businesses in the country. Other studies have established that many people have a negative perspective towards people of a different race than if they were in the same race. This helps in making an analysis of how an increase in the illegal immigrants in a country will increase the hate crimes. For instance, people choose their transaction and business partners by keenly observing their racial affiliations and background of their origin. This forms a chain of transactions and businesses that are inclined to a part of the racial combinations in the country. A past study aimed at establishing the relationship between social crimes in schools and the affiliations of the children’s racial factors (Stotzer, 2007). It was established that children had a social affiliation more on the same race. Even though children are developing human beings, they could outwardly observe their different races. This idea makes them to have quire relationships against other races yet they are in the same environment. In essence, the racial difference is adapted from adults who guide the children in some vital stages in life. For instance, some adults will instruct their children to choose their friends depending o their race affiliations. Another study focused on the relationship between working conditions and the performance of workers in an environment. This study indicated that the performance of employees can be adversely affected due to a difference in the racial affiliations, since there are differences in performance in same environments. In some organizations, some positions are meant for a certain race or people from a certain community. Research design The research will be destined to establish the close linkage of the outcome and results in connection to previous research by various researchers. In coming up with accurate results, the research will use books, journals, website articles and other reputable sources of information to gather background information. The research will involve the researchers collecting information from participants using questionnaires. The participants will answer a number of questions relating to the crimes and illegal immigration. Similarly, the research will involve collection of information from the immigration department on the recorded number of immigrants that have been in the country over the years. In the relation to the number of the immigrants, the researcher will have to compare the information from the immigration department with the information from the crime department. They will particularly focus on crimes related to social crime rates. This particular research design was chosen since it will give accurate data from the residents of the United States who have seen the effects of hate crimes (Creswell, 2010). They will also give ample information on their knowledge of immigrants in the country, and if by any chance, increase the hate crimes. In the second case, the design will have accurate results as the information from the immigration department and crime department will give first hand information on the crimes. For instance, the department records all the information about crimes that are connected with illegal immigrants. The study will focus on the basic two variables, the independent variable being the high number of illegal immigrants in the xxx area, US while the dependent variable being the level of hate crimes in the same area.
