The internet has shown evidence that it can strengthen weak relationships and that it can deepen the ties between different people and groups, especially those that are physically distant and hard to reach through conventional dating systems. However, the internet has also been a major force behind the reshaping of strong relationships, including the relationships between the groups and the individuals that are most close to one another, including married couples and cohabiting youths and older groups (Bratina 2013).

The research administered in the past has given evidence showing that the internet is very instrumental in the initiation and the maintenance of close relationships, especially among specific groups, age groups, and case studies (Donna & Draucker 2012). This report extends these findings, paying special attention to the social dating of heterosexual couples, among adolescents and older groups, according to the views of adolescent subjects. Background of the survey studyThroughout the history of dating and romantic relationships, people have searched for the help they can get, to meet new potential partners, using all the means available to them.

Among adolescents and young adults, like other groups, arranged relationships and match-making has existed over the years (Mulford & Blachmann 2013). The evidence of this fact includes that; adverts as old as the newspaper industry has shown segments dedicated to arranged dating and matchmaking. Recently, the technological developments made from the use of newspapers, to the internet era, people have utilized these platforms to connect people more and more (Young et al., 2010). Arising from the technological advancements, the world of dating has experienced a shift from traditional face-to-face communication to the use of Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC).

CMC refers to a means of communication that involves the application of electronic devices rather than one-on-one communication (Smith 2005). This may be in the form of social networking sites, such as Facebook and match.com, or the use of email messengers. Other forms of CMC include text messaging and instant messaging.
