Extract of sample "Communication Career"

My career choice is communication. Communication is a faculty in arts which deals with listening, creative thinking, speaking, decision-making, self-esteem, problem solving among other aspects in communication. As the world’s sociopolitical space advances, the relevance of communication career increases. Communication career has application in industries dealing with the aforementioned subjects. Presently, the world cannot advance when communication careers do not exist. For instance, the advancing social development owes a lot of credit to communication disciplines because of their work in influencing societal aggressions. My career goal is to integrate the communication training into the relevant industries to improve the existing industry trends (Noronha 10). Communication career requires a bachelor’s degree in Arts and other related fields. Bachelors’ degree is the relevant entry requirement for this career, because the work involves design and analysis of the social aspects. The analytical work conducted by the communication professional dictates the above requirement. It is notable that design projects require adequate information, which is best covered at the bachelor’s level. In addition, the communication industry contemporary progresses in social economic aspects to develop strategies that would promote social development. Most modern trends observable today tend to demand educational qualification alongside the experience that a person has. My aspiration in the field largely depends on my ability to achieve the essential education requirement. The subject combination necessary for the bachelor degree in communication is as follows: A-level which majors in linguistics, history, and social studies (Noronha 19). The typical starting salary for communication workers is $ 13.56 per hour. This salary is considered high owing to the fact that the employee is a fresh graduate without work experience. The demand for experience is a common trend in the labor market. However, the preferences given to this career and the communication training at the bachelors’ level enables new recruits to serve while preparing for higher cadre. Records on the communication industry indicate that occupation practices such as on job training do apply in the industry. In addition, demand for experience before assuming the job is not a major factor considered at the entry level (“Pathway to Career in Communication”). Communication professional may work under contracts which are payable according to the numbers of hours the communication professional has worked. The job opportunities in this career demand forty to fifty hours a week. In the industry, one works fifty hours a week when a demand for a specific service increases. Quality work depends on the amount of hours an individual spends working. It is a common phenomenon to see overworked employees making avoidable errors. Since this career deals with people, limiting errors is a major concern for the industry. Coincidentally, errors are manmade. In essence, avoiding the errors would require objective work as opposed to subjective work. The high standard set by the industry demands that employees within the industry must produce an incredible quality. Conversely, work output in any given industry depends on employee satisfaction. All these factors revolve around the amount of time an individual spends working. Like any other career, communication profession has both positive and negative aspects. On the one hand, the positive aspects will lure one into the career; on the other hand, the challenges posed in the career may frustrate one’s ego. The career has a following positive aspect – it pays well. Many people work in order to achieve a given lifestyle. Conversely, the lifestyle that one aspires to achieve depends on the amount of income that one is able to command from a given employment. The career promotes flexibility of employees. For example, a communication professional has the capacity to work in any firm which requires the above subject combination. Thus, the communication profession does not confine the employee to work only as radio or TV presenter. Flexible careers promote interest of the employee as well as the interest of the industry. In most cases, careers that confine a person’s ability within a given area may hamper further advancements (Berko 31). Most of the jobs in the field of communications are located in a number of places such as Boston, New York City, Kansas, and California. This is because in these cities, there are many and preferably large companies that are constantly in need of communications experts. Furthermore, it is agreeable that these companies offer surmountable salaries in return for services delivered by the acquired communications staff. One of the most propelling among all these cities is the New York City, as in this location there are many fields that require professional support of communication experts, given the fact that most companies dealing with communications are found here (“Pathway to Career in Communication”) The positive aspects of the communication career should not blind us to forget the negative aspects. Some of the negative aspects about this career dictate the working period of the professional. Sometimes, communication professionals have to work night shifts, and this leaves little attention for their families. While people settle in a given career, it should not warp the relationship in marriage (Noronha 42). The second negative aspect of the communication career is that the job may be risky, especially when the communication professionals learn information which unearths past injustices or unethical practices in the society. This aspect is instrumental, especially when a person intends to reveal crucial information that would change the political or social inclination in the society. Communication professionals have the opportunity to join some professional bodies. One of them is Bates Communications, Inc., a vibrant communications company with major outlets in the US. Additionally, a communication professional may join the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC).This is a communications company that is very rich in media researching, teaching, and in media writing. Apart from these two, there is also the WBZ-TV Boston, which is a communications company that continues to dominate the television industry in terms of the quality of the product, professionalism, and other aspects of an outstanding job (Berko 39). The following major companies hire communication professionals: Starbucks, which has work capacity of 13000 employees in the retail department and 400 in the professional services; Amazon.com, which has work capacity of 3000 professionals; Citibank, which has work capacity of 2500 employees. Communication professionals can join any of the following professional bodies. Other major companies hiring the communication professionals include the media companies, marketing companies, and research firms among others. The communications professionals also find application in business companies. These companies tend to host majority of the professionals. As regards HCC, it is important to note that the requirements set forth by the HCC degree to achieve a communications career include average passes in numerous models and successful international admissions. HCC maintains that, for a student to land a position in the communications career, he or she must ensure eligible marks in communication models and be conversant with the criteria used in selecting qualified staff for this career. In conclusion, communication career has its application in nearly every industry. These industries range from media industries, film industry, marketing firms, and businesses among others. Settling for a career in communication requires bachelor degree in arts. The communication professionals are instrumental to social, political, and economic development of nation (Berko 53). It is arguable that the communication agents are the proponents of change in the society. The job they do can change the society positively or negatively. Works cited Berko, Roy M.
