Summary and Critique New media technologies are changing perspectives about journalism ethics. Focus of the new mixed media is to develop an open media ethics. The open media ethics has play a role in changing ethics from being closed professional to a matter of societal concern as a whole. Global online media facilitates the idea of global fifth estate. The article makes sense to me. I can identify with the arguments of the author because they resonate with my personal experiences. The fifth estate has particularly flourished over social media websites like Youtube and Facebook.

The fifth estate media is freer compared to the government controlled fourth estate media. People freely abuse each other’s leaders in the fifth estate media. A question is; Should the fifth estate media be regulated to deter its negative effects on the audience? (Akhtar) has shared what is one of the top stories of this week. This is a noteworthy story because it draws upon a very important issue which is considered too unimportant to consider. It is about changing the name of the ‘Kaffir Lime’.

The word Kaffir has been right depicted as offensive and racist. Changing the lime’s name would reflect the culinary industry’s commitment to uprooting racism. Works Cited:Akhtar, Khalil. “Common lime name has racist history.” CBC News. 8 July 2014. Web. 8 July 2014. .
