THE USE OF VIRTUAL ENGAGEMENT BY THE BRITISH COUNCIL IN BRITISH COUNCIL ZERO CARBON CENTRE + Submitted The Use of Virtual Engagement by the British Council in British Council Zero Carbon Centre Carbon emission has become a threat to the future survival of human beings. A lot of carbon is being emitted in the world today by the burning of products of fossil fuel, which includes coal oil and gas (British Council, 2014, p. 63). The carbon becomes too much for the plants on the earth to re-absorb all this carbon. This increases the amount of carbon accumulated on the earth’s surface. This carbon therefore accumulates more heat to the earth and this causes global warming. In addition, human beings have been elevating the problem by cutting down the plant material that could help in reabsorbing the carbon (Center For Alternative Technology, 2013). It is therefore necessary to have a centre that offers a platform by which individuals and organizations can come together and discuss matters affecting climate change in the world. Virtual technology in this case can be very useful as it will ease the process through which communication is to be done. The British council on climate change and sustainability initiated an idea of using virtual technology in addressing the issue of discussion on climate change and sustainability (Virtual Engagement: British Council’s Zero Carbon Centre, 2013). This centre is to help the individuals and organization to share information on carbon emission and host events with topics on climate change and sustainability and create synergies (O’Neill 2008, 81). The use of virtual technology in the fight against climate change is a very noble idea. The use of virtual technology in zero carbon centers will include a number of topics including; I. Dr. Rebecca initiated the idea behind the use of virtual technology in the creation of the zero carbon centers. The research paper should address Dr Rebecca Nadin, the director of the program in China. Her ideas led to the creation of the Zero Carbon Centre. Dr Rebecca is considered as the pioneer of the program as she usually challenged her team to broaden the reach and thoughts of climate change. In addition, it should address the creation and the launch of the Zero Carbon Centre. The research should address the ideas that were brought together and the eventual creation of the centre. It should address the procedure through which the centre was created and the funding of the finances that were used to create the centre. II. The use of virtual technology in the carbon centre is the other topic that will be discussed. Communication is the key factor in virtual technology. It is use to bring organizations and people together. Virtual technology has helped to meet the objectives of the creation of the Zero Carbon Centre (Dourish 2004, 53) III. The advantages and the disadvantages of using the virtual technology in the Zero carbon centre will also be addressed. Some of the questions that will be answered include: Has the virtual technology been helpful in curbing climate change and in meeting the core objectives of the creation of the carbon centre? How have the people concerned been receptive of the program? What are the challenges the program has faced when using virtual technology in the centre? What are some of the solutions and policies that have been provided to help in solving some of the challenges that the use of virtual technology in the centre is facing? IV. The future of virtual technology will also be looked into in depth. It will seek to answer the questions: How can we describe virtual technology using the lessons learnt from the use of virtual technology in the Zero Carbon Centre? Has it been useful in the wider world? Is it applicable in other areas of the world? The use of various sources for the research is important, as it will provide a wide range of ideas. Library databases are very essential as they provide the diffusion of new and old online technologies (INTEL Technology Journal 2010, 32). Therefore in the research on virtual technology it will be very effective, journals both written by the related sectors in the virtual technology are also effective, as they will help us to understand how virtual technology came to be, how it has developed to the point it is today (CAT 2010, 28). Written books will be used and internet links. This is because the internet provides a lot of information on various topics related to use of virtual technologies. New research methods will also be important when used. The key words for the research can include (but not limited to); ‘Virtual technology’, ‘Zero Carbon Centre’, Sources needed for the research include zerocarbon.britishcouncil.org and www.zerocarbonbritain.org, which are the websites of the organization. They provide some of the basic updates of the organization that are needed. Another will be the Zero Carbon Building Journal Volume 1, 2014. This contains information on the zero carbon building, the systems, and the board of directors and the passive design of the centre. Centre for Alternative Technology, Zero Carbon Britain 2030. ISBN 9781902175614 is the other source of pertinent information. This book is relevant in the issue of adopting technology in the Zero carbon campaign.
