in media that contains bias material If there is one in media coverage that contains so much bias in its gathering of information and reporting is the war of America in the Middle East, particularly in Afghanistan. It is pictured in the media that Afghans were terrorists and that America is only fighting to preserve peace and to defend itself.
Such, the media painted the Afghan fighters and Mujaheedens as terrorists or pyromaniacs who loves war and chaos. The media also pictured them as ignorant, suicidal, uncouth who do not know diplomacy but only war.
This reporting is extremely biased because it only reports the American side of the story. What the media did not report or do not like to report is that the terrorism that it is fighting now is its own making. The Al-Qaeda was in fact organized, trained, funded and armed by the CIA during the Afghan-Russian war and was not a terrorist organization as what the media would label it. America got involved in a war that is not its own to prevent the then communist Russia from expanding to the Middle East.
After the war, Afghanistan was in shambles. The Afghans asked for America’s help to rebuild itself and build schools to better the life of Afghanistans and live a civilized life again. Instead, the Americans nonchalantly abandoned Afghanistan after its interest were served of clipping communist expansion in the Middle East. Thus, the Al-Qaeda evolved into an organization to fight its own creator which labeled it as “terrorist”.
Of course this is not reported in the media. After all, most media outfits are owned by Americans and naturally, it will only report American interest. Read More

Media Bias in War

...English 102 Media Bias in War It is tough to remain unbiased in times of war. War – which is a prolonged conflict between countries and groups of people -- brings death, destruction and hardship affecting all segments of societies engaged in it and beyond. Death, destruction and hardship whip up passion among people on both sides of the war, and passion blurs objectivity and hardly leaves any room for neutrality, particularly in peoples, groups and countries that are directly engaged in battle. Even in those societies that are not directly involved in war, people do find reasons to sympathize with one side or the other that clouds their neutrality. The media – which include print and...

Racial Bias in the Media

...Racial Bias in the Media There is always bias in the media. Media, especially mass media, has a very difficult job. They are expected to cover (ina completely unbiased, yet respectful fashion) all major events that occur around the globe, while also managing to be interesting, insightful, and overall, entertaining. At no time will bias ever be absent from media, simply because of the vastly different beliefs held by each different group, and by each different culture. DETECTING MEDIA BIAS

...Media Bias Part A For this particular assignment, I chose to concentrate on the local Bay Area news as covered by KTVU. It appears that two unidentified persons committed suicide at a local San Jose strip mall and police were called to the scene. This particular news item was the result of real time reporting and is a perfect example of the way the media can prove to report the news, without really giving any real information in the story. This particular story was written by in such an obvious rush by the beat reporter that there were certain grammatical errors and a tremendous amount of missing information about the dead people. There was even a story about a toddler who was found in...

By using such a technique, I will help the readers overcome their tendency for “oversimplified associative thinking” so that they will see the co-relation between the abandoned child and the suicide couple. I will point out information that was overlooked in the first report. · How might you use the strategies for promoting... ...

...Does Media Bias Cause Islam to be Misunderstood? Monica Engle Madison Area Technical College Does Media Bias Cause Islam to be Misunderstood? Historical Background Islamophobia. It is a term that, once thrown around, can instantly cause a debate. The discussion about it can revolve around its definition, or even its origin. Islamophobia, as can be seen in the western media portrayal of Islam and Muslims, can be traced back to the mid-part of the 20th century – sometime in 60s and 70s. For some reason, this negative portrayal has not changed over the decades. Derogatory terms such as “camel jockey” obviously show contempt against this group. During the...
