During his research, the author concentrated on the certain years including 1978, 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, 1992 and 1997. These are very important years China’s history in which there is the issuing of different policies. The study of these policies helps to show the importance of changes of domestic policy in the internalization of television in China (Junhao 7). The book consists of a collection of facts that help show how the media in general has changed. As a researcher, Junhao wrote the book based on research findings and interviews that enabled him to, intensively discuss the issue of mass media.
His research concentrated on issues about communication in various countries worldwide. He also focused on the relationship of the society and media in Asia and how different societies have different media forms. This book is of great use to researchers and scholars who are interested in issues of communication not only in China but also globally. My critical evaluation of this book is that it is logic, has internal consistency, and it coheres with the world outside it. The author clearly shows how television has been changing as years pass.
This is true in the wider world in that, in all societies; television is now way too different than what it was about 20 years ago. Evaluation The book is very clear as it contributes in giving the reader a thorough comprehension about television in China, as well as an understanding about international systems of broadcasting. It portrays television in China as the largest and a very complicated communication system (Junhao 26). It has a lot of information about how television has changed since China’s reform.
Junhao Hong has well achieved his goal of illustrating how television has changed over the past twenty years. He touches on factors that lead to the change in media such as policies of the government, advancement of the society both in technology and economy. The book suggests to a reader that television in China is so complicated and powerful means of communication. Though the book has a lot of information about mass media in China and how television has changed rapidly, the author does not pay attention to the effects of the change to the country.
Is the tremendous change a good or bad thing to the society? It is difficult for a reader to know his attitude towards this change as he has touched so little about the effects of the theme of change. Comparing this book with others, one can easily see that Junhao Hong left out a lot about the mass media in China. For instance, comparing it with the book Culture, and Television in Hong Kong by Eric Kit-Wai Ma, Junhao’s book is entirely outdone. Eric’s book not only gives a description of how television in Hong Kong has changed all through the years, but also goes further to show its significance in the culture of the societies in China, as well as its impact in politics.
Through personal experience, having travelled far and wide in this world, I strongly agree with Junhao in that television varies from society to society globally. In developed countries, television is far too advanced and changes rapidly In relation to the always advancing world of technology. What important thing about Junhao’s book is that, the author gives a thorough description of how television has changed in China based on facts. He gives a lot of informa
