These texts also present the images of the work of various architects in order to show differences between the designs and styles applied by the different architects. Architects have been found to make use of various styles in their construction design. Deconstruction design is one of the architectural designs used by architects. Deconstruction design creates a stylish design which tries to manifest the architect’s honesty. Deconstruction is a word that is used to label architecture, products, graphic design and fashion combined with ambiguous future overtones. Deconstruction design is said not to be a style or attitude but it is a method of enquiring about the technologies, social institutions and formal devices represented in the design. It is a design which shows rebel against geometry in architecture. The characteristics of deconstruction design include fragmentation, layering, chopping up, manipulating the ideas of a structure’s surface or skin, non rectilinear shapes and dislocation. Deconstruction design thus focuses on the techniques and systems that are used in the production of architectural work. This is because, deconstruction does not happen outside the building but it happens inside the building. “Out there: Architecture Beyond Building” is one of the textbooks that describe design. This text describes deconstruction design because of the way it explains the present move towards the construction of free architecture. In addition, this text shows that in order for the architects to achieve the present important construction themes, site installations, visualizations and experiments will be of great help. The text also shows that architecture does not only include making buildings but is also thinking and discussing the best way to make buildings. The design of the building is what matters most in architecture and thus architecture is what makes people have confidence with their places of residence. One of the architects in this text is Frank Gehry who helped to show people how architecture can be used to make people have a liking for their places of residence. In this connection, deconstruction design helps to ensure that the best techniques are used in construction in order to come up with better buildings. Deutscher Bank building in Berlin In the above image, the architect explains that, good architecture should have the ability to transform the people’s world and make people make their own world, (Betsky A, 2008 pp 74). The image shows deconstructive design because it includes deconstructive characteristics such as non-rectilinear shapes and manipulation of the ideas of a structure’s surface. The other text that shows deconstruction design is the Jewish Museum Berlin textbook. This text shows that buildings can be two fold lines. The architect, Daniel Libeskind had his architectural work move from the construction of cultural and commercial buildings into the building of museums and concert halls as well as other buildings. This text describes deconstruction design because it explains the reasons for resistance in construction. According to Daniel L, 1999, pp 18, deconstruction involves resistance which occurs as resistance to function and the assumed configuration of the program either in personal works or in architectural modernism in general. This text shows us that geometry is both literal and metaphor and this compares with Betsky’s text that shows that good architecture should change people’s world and make them come up with their own world. Jewish Museum in Berlin (Interior detail) Daniel Libeskind also shows that modern architecture involves dual use of geometry. Dual use of geometry shows the application of geometric figures in order to create difference fragmentation and movement in space. The above imagine which gives the interior detail of a Jewish museum is an example of deconstruction design because it involves the use of non-rectilinear shapes and interest in manipulation of the ideas of the building’s services. In addition, it also includes alluding to cultural conditions, events, history and justice in order to come up with buildings that satisfy people’s expectations. This architect tried to create buildings which would reflect an understanding of history and bring a new realization of the relationship between program and architectural space. “The creation on movement” by Johnson P and Mark W is the other text that describes design. Just like the other texts describing deconstruction design, this text shows that deconstruction design is full of rebellion. Zaha Hadid is one of the architects mentioned in this text and his architectural work is seen to show deconstruction. Through this book, it is explained that deconstruction is not a building style but it is an explanation which shows the techniques to be followed in architecture. In addition, the book also explains that deconstruction does not include the dismantling of buildings. It is also made clear that deconstruction is not a term that originates from architecture but it is a term which originates from language. Deconstruction design does not have defined meanings and determinable missions. They are more than any mission would impose and they exceed the boundaries they currently occupy. According to Johnson P and Mark W, 1988 pp 45, deconstruction is applied or happens from the inside. In architecture, deconstruction is shown through rebellion. In most cases, it involves geometric rebellion which makes architects use to search for freedom from classism. In this connection, geometric rebellion will involve the use of geometry to express freedom by contradicting the geometry of modernism as shown in the building below. This will result to the superposition of three autonomous ordering system points, lines and surfaces. Each of the systems is an idealized structure, a traditional mechanism of order. Vitra Fire Station In his book, “Diagram Diaries” Peter Eisenman explains design as used in architecture. This text shows that deconstruction occurs in architecture through superposition and palimpsest. Wexner Centre The above image shows deconstruction through palimpsest. This image appears like an incomplete building and this helps to ensure deconstructions in the image chopping up and layering. In this image, the cube is legible. However, the dismembered cube is not simply reassembled into a number of new stable forms by rearranging the kits parts. Instead, the elements are embedded in each other in unstable assemblages. The parts are also replaced in conflict with each other. The technique used in constructing this image clearly shows there is deconstruction in the image. This is because, it tries to bring things that are literal and others which are metaphorical to the presence of the viewers. Just like other texts that explain deconstruction design, this text shows that deconstruction involves fragmentation and dislocation of some parts of an image in order to create meaning. The architect inserts grid fragments in the spaces inside the construction by dislocating the rectangular solids. In addition, this architect has not done anything that depends on conditioning of any factor and therefore the construction of the image is independent. Crosses have been superimposed in this image and this shows that deconstruction design involves superposition of elements in the images in order to create better buildings, Peter E, 1999, pp 93. Deconstructivist architecture is the other text that explains design from architects. In this text Philip J explains that deconstruction in architecture involves three main truths. These include planning for space, forming the shape and shaping the space. This text shows that deconstruction design involves the superposition of aesthetic figures. Winton guest house Superposition has swept away from the plane of illusions of two dimensional spaces into the illusions of three dimensional spaces. It has led to the creation of ultimate illusion of irrational space with its infinite extensibility into the foreground and background. It also involves the use of proun which collects and assembles scientific systems instead of working through them. Proun also involves the altering of a particular setting in order to create art. In addition, proun usually involves the introduction of the idea of plural creation by the way of creative processes that are produced with each variation. In this connection, Philip shows deconstruction in architecture because he explains the construction of illusionary images that will help to meet the needs of the people. Frank Gehry is one of the architects in this text and through his images; he tries to show that the understanding of deconstructive architecture can be challenging for many people, (Philip J, & Mark W, 1988, pp 89). This shows that deconstruction design is not easily identified by most people and therefore people should be keen when identifying deconstructive design. The other example of a text that describes deconstruction design is “deconstruction in theory and practice” by Christopher Norris. This text shows that in most cases, people are misled with the meaning of deconstruction design because they are made to think that it involves the demolition of buildings. It also tries to explain the roots of deconstruction in architecture. According to Christopher N, 1982, pp 54, deconstruction involves supplementarity. There is also a difference between the philosophical; deconstruction and literary deconstruction. Wexner centre-interior view The above image shows deconstruction in Christopher text of the theory and practice of deconstruction design. One of the architects mentioned in this book is Peter Eienson whose images show that deconstruction can be done to achieve metaphorical and literary aspects (Christopher N, 1982, pp 59). In addition, the above image is full of fragmentation and manipulation of ideas which is a characteristic of deconstruction design. Deconstruction design is therefore an aspect that is common in various architectural works. Many architects choose to apply deconstruction design because it helps them to create a stylish design which shows the architect’s honesty. In most cases, architectural designs labeled with deconstruction are affected by future overtones. In this connection, deconstruction is not a style that is used in architecture but it is a method of enquiring the most effective technologies and formal devices that can be applied in architectural design.
