The internet creates more serious problems than it solves Name Institution Affiliation The internet creates more serious problems than it solves Introduction The era of technology is here with us, and the market has been fully taken over by the sale of latest electrical gadgets. Science and technology have gone high making human beings be fully dependent on the machine use. Addiction has also taken part in dictating the use of technology, especially with the computer. The internet has been used by every generation, and the results have been both negative and positive. On the evaluation of the effects of the internet use, I think we should reduce using the internet because it has negative aspects than benefits. The arguments below will aim to delve on the fact that the internet has brought more problems than solutions. Section 1 According to Eysenbach et al. (2004), continuous use of the internet has resulted in health problems among individuals as discussed. First reason is that the use of internet results to lack of involvement in the physical activities. Computers have developed addictive nature in the lives of the users making every individual to be lazy. People rarely leave for the outdoor activities or nature walk resulting in general body weakness. Individuals continue to use the internet and play long session games creating a generation which is extremely technology advanced but totally physically inactive. Secondly, it can result in overheating and obesity of the internet users. As individuals spend time on the computers or telephone enjoying the internet services, it is likely for one to be engaged in eating frequently. The eating habit that is likely to be formed is the one that will be more concerned with eating snacks or any other food leading to obesity. As we enjoy the internet use on the computers, there is no utilization of the fats within our body hence too much fat accumulate in our body resulting in the risk of obesity. Lastly, the continuous use of the internet, especially on the computer, results to insomnia. Continuous use of the computer and the internet makes a large number of youths and the young to ignore the importance of night sleep creating change in the normal sleeping patterns. It is argued that every person that works on the computer for more than five hours is likely to suffer from insomnia and currently you find youths taking more than six hours on a computer (Singh, 2015). Section 2 Arıcak et al. (2014) argue that different theft works have been associated with the use of the internet for the purpose of the various activities. Some of the theft works that have been put in place include, first the financial fraud. In making any transaction within the company, the organization always uses different internet platforms. Several frauds on the finances have been reported with the United States reporting a big number of fraud regarding the internet use ranging from the credit cards, tax refund fraud, and mail frauds. Information is changed through the internet and individuals hide the identity which is used to convince and confuse others to make the payments. Some of the security frauds have been realized due to the development that has been realized in the internet sector. The fraud involves assuming the identity of a different individual which is used to steal from the second party which had communications or business deals with the other. Secondly, cases of committing crimes within the internet have been done through individuals using other people’s names on the internet. An individual fills wrong details about him/herself or uses a friend's details to commit the crime making it hard to trace the crime cause. The identity hide is used to commit highly sensitive crimes like terrorism without traces of identifying the person who commits a crime. The crime acts and the identity misuse are common within different platforms of internet use such as computer and cyber crimes, drug trafficking, money laundering and alien smuggling (Arıcak et al. 2014). Section 3 Family communication has also been affected by the internet use as discussed below. First, the internet affects the activities and the interaction nature of the child. The majority of the children today spend more than seven hours playing on the computers and enjoying the internet services (Nikken & Jansz, 2014). A culture of giving attention to whatever is presented on the internet has resulted in the children not communicating with the parents. The link between the young ones and the parent results to silence in the family. Secondly, the families are greatly affected, and they forget to appreciate the role of family meals. Families cannot enjoy the meals together since each and every member of the family at any time of the day have specific interaction time with the internet hence creating distance in developing time for collective meals (Coyne et al. 2013). The family would rather feed on the snacks and enjoy their internet services than to eat together but miss the interaction on the internet. Thirdly, having online services at home reduces the chances of the family gatherings. Once the gathering has been mess up with as well as reduced, sharing in the family is reduced (Caplan, 2003). This results in the children missing some aspects of growth which include, social, emotional and physical growth since the interaction is greatly reduced. Lastly, the internet use results in the loss of psychological involvement and development of the individuals in outside the home communication. Despite the idea being able to provide the opportunity for people to make outside friendship and bonds, the psychological development of the individuals is reduced (Caplan, 2003). Section 4 Continuous use of the internet results in the internet addiction. Internet addiction is the behavior that becomes a must in the life of an individual in relation to the online-related activities (Griffiths, 2000). Addiction causes stress to the family, friends and loved ones since it becomes and dominates the priorities of an individual in life. The addiction that individuals develop from the internet is caused by the inability of an individual to control the nature of his/her behavior. Secondly, it is caused due to loss of self-esteem which makes an individual to only think of internet use. Lastly, it is caused by the sense of powerlessness pervades which an individual experience in life. The following are some of the types of the internet addictions. First is the cyber relational addiction which entails the internet use mainly for intimacy and sex. Secondly is the net compulsory addiction which entails the online gambling, shopping, and other types of gaming on the internet. Lastly is the informational overload which causes addiction, as individuals tend to go to the internet to receive various information from the internet (Griffiths, 2000). Counterargument Despite the negative effects that are presented by the use of the internet, it also comes with some positive effects. They include, first, it helps in the online shopping for the items. The online stores always offer their goods and the prices which are relatively lower than physically located stores. The slash in the prices enables the individuals to receive the goods at a lower price and be able to compare prices before making a decision on where and what to buy (09twbibi, 2012). Secondly, the internet use helps individuals to receive and access the information easily. Once the information has been posted online as a word or pdf document, each and every person has the capacity to find the information on the internet. Those looking for the information easily receive or get the online information line through different Google search and library database online services. Discussions of different information are also capable of being done online with the involvement of different experts in the market. Social networking has been developed by the internet users who have ensured that there is constant and ready discussion forum for the issues addressed (Lombardo, 2015). Lastly, the use of the internet has created a business opportunity for some people. For example operating as an online marketing and clearance agent working from your own facilities. The opportunity that it offers enables someone to operate as their own bosses creating the sense of joy. Being your own boss makes you do whatever you want at any time. It also follows that the individual will be making money for him or herself. This motivates an individual to work hard knowing he/she is the beneficiary of his/her actions. The operation for oneself ensures that there is job security in working since you are sure of every action you take on the business. From the internet perspectives, everybody will only get involved in the activities which are fit the passion that he or she has. However, the business might look lucrative, but the effects of various challenges might lead to the inability for self-development. The idea is a risk to be taken, and those who fear risk are not able to participate in it. Secondly, the initial capital that individuals require in doing the business becomes a problem to the proprietor. Thirdly, you might find yourself venturing into a business which is inconsistent in its way of production. Lastly, creating business requires that you spend more time in the development and running of the business than the full-time job (Cusack, 2012). Conclusion From the discussion that has taken place, it is evidence that the internet usage has both positive and negative impacts on human beings. The advantages are so nice that it makes the application to be simple, fast, and educative. However, its disadvantages when excessively used are worse than the advantages. Therefore users of the internet should ensure that they minimize the time frame for the utilization of the internet but maximize the potential of the internet. References Arıcak, O.
