COMPUTER SCIENCES AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY JAVA IMPACT ON BUSINESS Introduction Technology refers to machinery or equipment developed using the knowledge of science for practical purposes which may include solving practical problems. Technology has been applied especially in the sector of information in businesses to enhance communication and sharing of information. Information technology therefore can be understood as all those forms of technology that can be utilized in creation, storage, exchange as well as use of information in the various forms which may include, business data, motion and still pictures or conversations and multimedia communication. When focusing on technology and business there is need for a deeper understanding of one’s business in order to establish how technology can be applied to transform the particular business an individual runs. In this case the telecommunication equipments need to be ones best allies in business. This paper therefore seeks to explain Twitter as social network and communication App in communication technology through highlighting how the technology is a “game-changer” in business; and for which particular organization or industry it has lead to transformation; What the organizational benefits from using this particular technology; the downside/cost (monetary and non-monetary) of using this particular technology; and the potential application of using this particular technology in the future Discussion Twitter is a social networking free site with micro blogging services where registered members have a platform to share or broadcast their short posts therein referred to as tweets. It also allows the registered members to follow fellow registered members using their technology devices or other multiple platforms. Through posting on Twitter.com which is their domain, one can be able to broadcast their tweets, which may include information about events, their situation, or just personal opinions. Their followers can then reply t such tweets via text messages or through the site via the domain above. Therefore, twitter can become a viral conduit of information sharing where an individual can retweet other tweets making information go viral (Entrrepreneur, 2015). Twitter can be accessed through browsers on PCs or cellular phones. Similarly the communication tool is available as an APP installable on tablets or on cellular phones to enable an individual use it on the go. But how has twitter, a social networking site become a game changer in business? Communication is very important especially external communication that links the customers to the business. Every organization that is concerned about profit making would want to achieve customer loyalty especially where competition is so stiff. Therefore, how does an organization achieve customer loyalty without communication? Twitter as a social platform has revolutionized communication between the firms and their clients. Unlike in the past where one would only have to call or perhaps reach to the office of the firm for complaints or enquiries, twitter has enabled instant communication at ones comfort via their PC or mobile phones improving customer relationship. For which particular organization or industry it has twitter lead to transformation? This is evident on a couple of organizations. The transformation is immense revolutionizing how communication with customers takes place through twitter earning firms the loyalty they desire. One such firm that has used twitter with success is Jet blue airways. This is an American airline that is low cost and is headquartered in the highland city neighborhood of New York. Its main base is at the Jeff Kennedy international Airport. This airline mainly services the US as well as the Caribbean and other 83 destination (Kissmetrics, n.d) s. This transport organization responds very quickly to customer requests or needs through the social network site, twitter. There are no days taken off by their customer service handle on twitter just like the air line too does. The commitment they exhibit on twitter towards customer service is absolutely impressive making their brand sell on twitter. They have a common goal as an organization with regards to customer service; to provide help whenever it is needed and where possible so that they can prove to their customers that their brand is built by people who are real and care about them. As such they have been able to go where their customers are and help instead of helping themselves by pushing constant press conferences (Kissmetrics, n.d). Through this platform, JetBlue has been able to promote itself by displaying publicly their quick responsive services and at the same time serving their customers which has brought them a win-win situation. What the organizational benefits from using this particular technology Twitter has benefitted Jet Blue immensely. Through use of twitter to reach out to their clients, the organization has been able to market itself to the wider public on how they value their customers and are quick in response to issues raised by their clients. Secondly, they have promoted their brand by having a great service to their customers as evident in their activities. Thirdly, Jet Blue has been able to earn an improved customer relationship. As is the norm, every business organization exists to serve customers, without the customers, the business is as good as dead. Therefore firms will always struggle to ensure their relationship with customers is built and upheld. This cannot be possible without communication. In order to provide excellent customer services, firms must engage in proper communication with its clients. Customers would appreciate and feel an organization is in charge and concerned when they communicate (Kissmetrics, n.d). Additionally, customer loyalty has been another contribution of twitter as a mode of communication between Jet Blue and its customers. The implication of effective and timely communication between the firm and their customers is customer loyalty. Nothing is as good for any profit organization like having their customers get loyal to them. The downside/cost (monetary and non-monetary) of using this particular technology Twitter as a technology tool for information sharing is not costly and as a matter of fact is amongst the cheapest technology tools to utilize. The costs associated with managing this communication technology are those that relate to data usage and perhaps the twitter account management personnel. This is a pretty cheap technology with immense benefits to any profit or nonprofit organization. The use of this Twitter technology is affordable and reliable with the benefits outweighing its disadvantages. The potential application of using this particular technology in the future Twitter as a social site and an important tool for organization ns to engage timely with their customers has good future prospects for the firms that engage in its use. Technology is fast changing and twitter is no exception. As human or organization needs become more complex, the technology too develops to address these complexities. Looking at twitter as a technological communication platform, there is a new development that is expected in the near future by the twitter developers. Twitter is curating tweets that can be used on live events. This is incredible. This micro blogging-site has now revealed that they are working on transformational changes that will see its users able to use its real-time news feeds in a very easy and simple way. The change referred to as project lightning will see users of this site follow events alongside people. Additionally, there will be the ability to instantly share videos or picture about different events real-time to their followers. The Twitter App will be able to show pre-scheduled as well as breaking news events. These changes will transform how organ9zations use twitter to communicate to their customers in future making it even better to enable customer – organization relationship improve for the better (Entrrepreneur, 2015). Conclusions Applying technology especially in the sector of information in businesses will enhance communication and sharing of information. Twitter as a tool for Information technology therefore can be used to improve businesses performance through customer relations. This paper has therefore found out that Twitter as social network and communication App in communication technology is a “game-changer” in business; which has transformed Jet Blue Airways earning it customer loyalty, good relationship with customers, good service delivery and overall improved output. As explained by Entrrepreneur, (2015) the potential application of twitter technology in the future is even more promising with real time events being able to be followed aside from just people.
