Living Life in a Bubble It is a generally believed notion that technology has knitted the world together into a tight ball. Everything is just as far as your nearest digital device. It is, however, also observed that every other new technological innovation has its demerits along with its merits Social Media websites have become significantly popular since the last few years. Not only business individuals but people belonging to all walks of life including a larger percentage of students make use of websites such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace etcetera to gain access to other people from the same or different localities and gain access to information from around the world. They attain all this access, straight from their desktops with minimal contact with the real world (Meena et al 94). Speaking in vivid terms the harmful impact of this digital socialization is more prominent than its positive effects. Not only to the individual but these sites pose a potential threat to the entire sociological entity. Students and officials using this technological innovation for their respective lines of work may deviate from the purity of their cause and take recourse to these sites, in order to kill their leisure or give their tiring minds a break. It should be noted that it is extremely feasible for them to do so much more effectively by taking a walk in the park or meeting up with friends. Instead they start to seek the comfort of their seats and virtually meet up with their friends and family, send digital greetings and ask after their sick relative’s health virtually. The students forget their prime reason of switching on their portable devices which was initially for study based purposes and get involved in these sites which are much addicting and attractive. What is the benefit of any innovation if the users start to forsake the reason for its creation? There are many other side effects of living inside this bubble of social sites and clinging to it all the while. Some are listed as follows: Deprivation of intuition and witty approach: As every minor bit of information ranging from the global to individual context is feasibly available on the internet, students are attracted to the easy way out and extract what they need from Google, Bing and other search engines. Not only books but entire research journals are available to the general public. Simultaneous execution of tasks: Commonly known as Multitasking, this process, though highly beneficial for effectively carrying out tasks in a less time period can be hazardous for the student life. This age is marked by less perseverance and an evanescent resolve. While studying or researching online, the student may deviate to these social websites. Simultaneously using the sites and studying cannot lead to a successful absorption of material vital for their education. Minimal real social life but maximum virtual deceptive social life The deteriorating eligibility for corporate level jobs and other fields is owed to these sites. People are growing more accustomed to digital communication and their faculties of one on one conversation are weakening. Their strength to face the real world is incapacitating. Psychology shows the difference between handling the real world with real people and the virtual world with deceptive facades (Dill 197). Increased dependence on self check technology People addicted to social sites usually cannot find the requisite stamina to read paper and so they lose their grip on language and commit grammatical blunders. Catalyst in invaluable Time atrophy It is a major time waste even if treated as an addiction during leisure. As mentioned earlier there are better ways to serve your free time in. Painting, sketching, playing, spending time with actual humans and reading a book are one of those healthy activities Educational Failure Lack of intuition and reasoning capabilities, which can only be achieved through direct experience and utilization of creative capacities, causes failure in educational life as well as in job and other career oriented purposes. Detrimental effects on health Occupying the same chair and continuously being affixed on the screen has detrimental effects on the user. Not only are they impaired of their vision but many other biological disorders like metabolic diseases make way in their bodies. Lack of outdoor activities promotes lethargy and fat deposition. This fat deposition, promotes incorporation of cholesterol in the blood transportation system thereby increasing the probability of cardiac or nervous strokes. Lack of activities that promote physiological activity are essential for the proper functioning of the body’s essential metabolic procedures that provide energy to the body for growing, thinking, working and competing. Incapacitating these systems can be hazardous to a person’s psychological and body health (Young 19) These social sites provide an easy access to all the past, present and future affiliates of a person without considering the time lapse and the distance that might have come in between them. Moreover it removes all sorts of hesitation a person might have in conversing with people in actual life. A virtual conversation is free from reception or transmission of vibes via facial expressions or any other physical stimulus. You are free to spill your minds out which might on the other hand be awkward. A Deceptive Bonding Devoid of hesitation promoting factors and promoting deceptive publicity of often fake information, social websites spoil a person’s intake on real life relationships. He banks on these virtual relationships and is in no way prepared to confront people. This vulnerability gives way to the most hidden aspects of his personality. He is inclined to reveal them too just because of a self assumed emotional bond he shares with someone he has never met in his real life. This incumbency then paves way towards crimes such as psychological torture, blackmails and heartbreaks (Cross 161). Moreover this activity also adds to the weakening of real life bonds he might have with some people like his family. Cyber-bullying or Cyber Harassment The prompt information availability can be in access to both friends and foes, which might use this information to harass for their personal benefit. The harassment might include blackmail and time to time public humiliation. Ignorant individuals might fall prey to these criminals and expose themselves as well their family (Jung n.p.). You basically cannot know who you are trusting. The psychological bruises left by these activities have long lasting effects and destroy a person’s capacity to trust in others or even himself, they can no longer feel confident in their own skin, vulnerability kills them inside. The gravity of these actions is extremely potent. Most people don’t recover, some commit suicide and those who do, are left in the misery of everlasting isolation. What do these sites get in reward for inflicting such major injuries? They generate revenue, large revenues, brand advertisements reach their climax just by being on these sites. Life today is highly chaotic. People are running after meeting their selfish ends without noticing the people they are kicking in its wake. Lack of creativity Not only in a student’s life but also in corporate jobs social website users are more vulnerable to being deviated towards social networking during their tasks. This not only gives a major setback to the company but destroys its revenue generation as well the targets it has to achieve. This internal environment and psychological well-being of the worker is extremely important for the entire organization to work successfully as a unit. Privacy These social websites require the user to make a personality profile in which he is prone to enlist his life and personality details from general to private life. He posts pictures, posts relationship status, tags friends, participates in groups and creates events. These activities and social circle are enough to conduct a complete personality check. The major emphasis of privacy is laid upon password email addresses and contact numbers. Otherwise the remaining information is available 24/7. A common human’s psychology craves attention, knowingly or unknowingly he tries to highlight everything that goes on in his mind (Spafford 41). In a corporate environment it is the duty of the mentor or the head to make sure his subordinates are highly motivated and driven towards their set targets. For this the people management strategy is unique to every company and in accordance with its organizational culture, policies, labor potential and financial solidarity. (Holtzman, 2006) The endeavor should be towards success by keeping pace with the subordinate units, making sure of their satisfaction and morale level. If the compartmentalized units are healthy then the overall company or business thrives and if the units are deteriorating with hidden grievances and regrets then everything is in eternal jeopardy as the labor cannot be removed without collapsing the structure and new labor cannot be hired without proper recruitment and assurances. Therefore care should be taken in order to meet the level of satisfaction. People who violate the laws of personal security can go to any limit to retrieve their pieces of information. Be it art, music, writings, drug design or a blueprint, inappropriate utilization of them is a serious offence. Calling offences like computer hacking is still moot. These people are addicted to information.Operating under an ethic that information should be openly available, they seek out ways to unlock pass codes, trespass firewalls and go peeking around the storage files even if they are highly classified. It doesn’t matter how far we upgrade our security protocol; protection of systems cannot be guaranteed completely. These people acquire information by deceptive means, and then they either sell it out at a price or keep it as bait in case a higher bidder comes. Their ethics are self-made; no law recognizes the stealing of information as legit. These hackers find it legit to disclose items that do not belong to them. Leaking nude pictures of celebrities is a breach of intellectual property. It is against ethical solidarity and has no substantial reason for its motivation (Cross 37). Moreover, not abiding by the rules of intellectual property is a serious dilemma as anytime anyone by their self-devised rules can attain easy access to someone’s vital pieces of information that can be lethal if put into the wrong hands. As mentioned above, lives today are largely governed by attaining self-centered motives, for this majority applies by hook or by crook means. From all this discussion it can be rightfully inferred that living inside this bubble has more harm than good. A completely balanced lifestyle is essential for the moral, psychological and physiological health of a person. Sitting behind a desk all day, holding a cordless device or even watching a television all day is detrimental for human abilities which slowly begin to wilt away.
