Business Requirement Document to Implement Data Warehouse Business Requirement Project Overview The company is data collection and data analysis firm. The function of this company is to collect relevant data and do the analysis of the data. While they are collecting the data, they need to store in a huge data warehouse so they can access the data easily for analysis process. This company is two-year-old company and has 10-terabyre data warehouse to store their data. Now the company is willing to expand their firm and to do this they need more client’s data for data analysis process. If the company is willing to expand then they require a huge data warehouse, where they can store their new data. For this, the company is thinking to add to their data warehouse by 20% capacity of it by every year. This will aid the company to work in smooth way and can enhance their company year by year in this similar rate. The new data warehouse model will help the company to store large amount of data for their near future. This project wills the company owner to understand the requirement of data warehouse and what will be the lacking area if they implement this strategy in to their company. Background including current process Since, the company is very new and begun with 10-terabyte capacity of data warehouse. The issue with the company is that they are in growing stage and wanted to expand in a smooth way. For this, they need to target new clients, who assign the company for new projects to collect data and its analysis. Therefore, the company requires a lot of space to store data so they need a new data warehouse, which could be modified after every year by the capacity of 20%. This project is to describe the implementation of new data warehouse with modification feature according to the company’s requirement. A good data warehouse will provide huge amount of space and security to the company during handling the huge amount of data. The project goal is to define the key areas of the company related to the data warehouse and in which area the company may lack during the implementation of new data warehouse and how the company should deal these factors. The IT role for this project is to use best strategy to implement the new data warehouse and without hampering the current workflow of the company. Therefore, the company will not suffer while implementing the new data warehouse and minimize the risk of data loss. Scope Scope of Project The scope of this project is to identify requirements of new data warehouse while implementing it in to the company. Application The Company need to develop new application to operate the new data warehouse with modification feature, so the company can access or retrieve the data from data warehouse. Process Re-engineering It will help to develop a business management strategy and help to analysis and design of the workflow of data warehouse implementation. Customization Customization is a main factor of this project. According to the requirement of the company, there should be customization such as modification of extra space in emergency. Architecture The architecture will define or construct a new infrastructure for data warehouse, where the company can store their data. Conversion The 12 terabyte for future year will be needed by the company to store their data warehouse. Testing Testing should be performed to check whether the data warehouse is functioning properly or not and fulfilling all desire needs of the company or not. Funding to implement a new data warehouse, the company is needed to pay huge amount of capital. Training The company has to provide a proper training to their staffs, through which they can perform well. Education The company should provide basic education to their staffs to operate the data warehouse like hoe to store data and retrieve from data warehouse. Constraints and Assumptions The following constraints have been identified: The cost of new data warehouse will be much high. Every year the company is need to be modified the capacity of data warehouse by 20%. The company has to provide proper training to their every employee. The following assumption has been made in defining the scope, objective and approach: Since, the company already has a data warehouse of 10-terabyte, so the company will not to require to train their staffs again to operate the data warehouse. However, the application for the new data warehouse might be differ from old one. Risks The following risks have been identified as possibly affecting the project during its progression: There might be chance of data loss. It might interrupt the company current workflow, which could be worst. Scope Control The control of changes to the scope identified in this document will be managed through the Change Control, with business owner representative approval for any changes that affect cost or timeline for the project. Like the high cost of new data warehouse, training for staffs and back up of old data which might loss while implementing the new data warehouse. Relationship to Other Systems/Projects It is the responsibility of the business unit to inform IT of other business initiatives that may impact the project. The following are known business initiatives: There may be a disturbance in to the work process of the company. May be many employee can face lot of problems during the operating the new data warehouse and its application. The loss of old data can hamper the company workflow. Definition of Terms Data Warehouse: Data warehouses store present and recorded data and are utilized for making slanting reports for senior administration reporting, for example, yearly and quarterly correlations (Inmon & Hackathorn, 1994).
