It is not only the fact to move or not move towards the evolution but also to consider the danger that the negative decisions will result in a loss of the market share due to new players that they may invade at the right moment. On the other hand, investments in new technologies have a tremendous impact on money and time. It is assumed that moving along with technology is not only a one-step process, but it is a continuous process of Follow-Examine-Decide-Implement-Evaluate. This report aims to facilitate this approach by providing information, opinion, and bibliography concerning smartphones and mobile platforms.

It also deals with the migration process from the desktop platform to the mobile platform and it provides information on the reasoning as to why this should be done and the key issues of that migration. The report also provides information on what types of applications the companies could migrate to and what are the different mobile Operating Systems available to develop their applications. Unfortunately, the decisions of choosing the right platform are not independent of the operating systems supporting those platforms.

That is why information on the different options about the operating systems (Android, iOS) is provided. This research also provides a step by step guide of how to establish a working development environment for iOS and Android with all the necessary licenses. This was implemented and tested during one assignment in the module of Mobile Applications that was to create the Hallam University Campus navigator, an application that migrated from a simple web map to a responsive application.The success of WWW (World Wide Web) and the internet and also the major advances of communication technology (wireless communication, smartphone/mobile device platform) lead to a new age of technological innovation.

We have reached a time where technology has come to a level of use that most people could not think about how their lives would be without it.
