For example, you can draft an essay as pages of diagrammed ideas. According to Sowa (1984), it is highly recommended to use conceptual graphs for diagramming concepts (Sowa, 1984, p. 178). You may like conceptual graph diagrams, or you may use diagramming techniques of your own. Describe your favorite diagramming techniques, and show some good examples of how you would use the diagrams. DIAGRAMMING TECHNIQUES Sowa (1984) defines a diagram as a 2D (2 dimensional) information representation of geometric symbols in accordance to certain conception practice. At times, the practice utilizes 3D (3-dimensional conception that is then projected on the 2D (2-dimensional surface). The word diagram is at times is applicable as a diagram synonym (Sowa, 1984, p. 141). Bar Chart A bar graph or bar chart is a graph or chart with bars that are rectangular in shape with lengths relative to the measures that they denote. The bars can be plotted horizontally or vertically. A chart with a vertical bar is occasionally termed as a column bar chart. Question 2 How should we do conceptual analysis of visual images? Conceptual analysis of visual images takes a closer look to photograph of object or an art object and translate the visual observations into a written text. Not only does a conceptual analysis record observations, it also affirms strongly on the work of art. Amstrong (2013) suggests that by observing the artwork and penning down observations goes beyond someone’s first impressions. By considering factors such as size, space, hues and textures allows the eye to absorb the images, formulate a claim that reflects on the organization of the visual image. By regarding how elements impact the intention of the image artwork like introducing the subject of the painting and then describing the images’ posture and gestures shows state of connectedness among visual elements of the Image e.g. the calligraphy of the text. Question 3 THE WEST 1795-1830 Centennial “The Yellow Apron” Pasquinel was a coureur des bois (runner of the woods) and a solitary trader with Indians in his spacious canoe. He traded in beads from Paris, silver from Germany blankets from Quebec and bright cloth from New Orleans. He ventured into the woods usually to trade various European items for furs, especially beaver pelts, and along the way, learned the trades and practices of the Native people who inhabited there. The Yellow Apron takes place from 1795-1830, and takes place in the west. It’s about a Frenchman named Pasquinel who trades for a living. No one knows where he came from some claim he comes from New Orleans which was confirmed by a trader from Missouri River but what they do know is that he is very good at trading but they all agreed that he was a man without fears. Pasquinel paddled along the upstream for five weeks, He appeared at the convergence of the Platte and the Missouri determined to try his luck along the earlier. It was a dangerous affair since the spot where the rivers joined was the bleakest in whole of North America but since he was a man with no fear he was determined to paddle his canoe about five hundred miles up the platte so as to reach by mid-winter and trade his pelts with whatever tribe he found, then bring the down the market in Saint Louis. It was a dangerous enterprise, one which required him to pass single-handed through Pawnee, Cheyenne and Arapaho country, going and coming. Chances for survival of a lone messenger were not great, but if he succeeded, rewards would be high, and that was the kind of gamble Pasquinel liked. He had paddled only a few miles when he realized that this river bore little resemblance to the Missouri. There progress depended solely upon strength of arm, but with the Platte he found himself often running out of water. Sandbars intruded and sometimes whole islands, which shifted when he touched them this made him to, avoid being grounded on mud flats. Three days later the situation remained the same. He began to curse the river, setting a precedent for all who would follow. “Sale Riviera” he growled aloud in Montreal French. “Ou a-t-Elle passé?’ Winter was approaching and a cold spell came and what little water there was froze, and for some days he was immobilized, but this caused no fear. He knew that If he could not get upstream, then he would trade a few pelts to Indians He was able to proceed when the thaw came and to make a living trading for beaver it was necessary to be at the Indian camps in the late winter, when the animals came out of hibernation, their fur sleek and thick. The same animal trapped in midsummer wasn’t worth a soul. Beaver trading was a winter job, and Pasquinel knew every trick the Canadians had developed for staying alive in freezing weather. Pasquinel entered the land of the Pawnee, reputed in Saint Louis to be the most treacherous tribe. He moved so stealthily that he spotted the Indian village before they saw him. For one whole day he kept his canoe tucked inside a bank while he studied his potential foe. They standard as they seemed like those he had known in the ably a gun or two. It was time to move. Methodically he laid out a supply of lead bullets, poured some powder, checked the oil patches required for tamping, and wiped the inside of his short-barreled fusil. His knife was in his belt and his hatchet close by. Taking a deep breath, he paddled his canoe out into the stream and soon he was spotted. Children ran down to the bank and began calling him in a language he did not know. Grim-lipped, he nodded to them and they shouted back. Three young braves appeared, ready for trouble, and these he saluted with his paddle. Finally two dignified chiefs strode down, looking as if they intended to settle the matter. They indicated that he must pull his canoe ashore, but he kept to the middle of the river. Angered, the two chiefs signaled a group of young men to plunge into the cold water and haul him ashore. Lithe bodies jumped in, walked easily to the middle of the river, and dragged him ashore. They tried to take his rifle, but he wrested it from them and warned in sign language that if they molested him, he would shoot the nearest chief. This commotion led them to draw back. Rude Water a fine-looking chief came from the tipis he was a tall with a very red complexion and he demanded to know who Pasquinel was and what he was doing. Pasquinel spoke in sign language for some minutes, explaining that he had come from Saint Louis, and that he came in peace, that all he wanted was to trade for beaver. He concluded by saying that when he returned through Pawnee lands, he would bring Chief Rude Water many presents. ‘Lieutenant said, that the Chief wanted his present at that particular moment and so Pasquinel dug into his canoe and produced a silver bracelet for the chief and three cards of highly colored beads made in Paris and imported through Montreal. He kneeled and handed Rude Water the cards and indicated they were for his squaw. ‘Lieutenant said, that the chief wanted four squaws, ` and Pasquinel brought out another card. The discussion continued all that day, with Pasquinel explaining that the Pawnee must be friends to the great King of France, but have nothing to with the Americans, since they have no king. Rude Water embraced Pasquinel and assured him that the Pawnee, greatest of the Indian tribes, were his friends, but that he must avoid the Cheyenne and Arapaho, who were horse stealers of the worst sort, and above all, the Ute, who were barbarians.
