Information Technology Question some personal requirements of an IT manager. Answer: Since an IT manager is responsible for the efficient application of information technology in an organization, he must possess up-to-date and current knowledge of the latest technologies, softwares and computer systems. He must be well equipped with effective communication and managerial skills to collaborate with people in his organization and better negotiate with the peers and suppliers. He must have leadership abilities. He must know how to deal with clients in a respectful yet intelligent way. He must be able to deal with laymen or people who have little or no knowledge about the use of technology and must be able to make them understand the complex technical terms. He should know what type of training should be given to the newcomers who want to become IT managers. He must be able to make logical decisions at the right time so as to make the best use of information. He must have good knowledge about trouble-shooting the problems arising in softwares as well as in hardware. He must possess excellent inter- and intra-organizational skills so as to professionally plan work schedules, targets, deadlines, meetings with IT professionals and training sessions. He must have a sense of responsibility about his job. Question 2: Give general requirements for the description of position of a laboratory technician and of a C++ programmer. Answer: For a computer laboratory technician position, the general requirements are that he is required to assist students in their study by providing them necessary hardware and software requirements. He must have knowledge about all technicalities related to the hardware of the system as well as the network so that he may be able to diagnose and repair any technical problem. He must be familiar with the operating system installation. He must be able to train new lab technicians and supervise them. He must know how to maintain software and hardware catalogs and inventory. He should be able to create backups of softwares and update them when needed. He should make lab schedules for students and for lab assistants. For the position of a C++ programmer, the person must have prior in-depth knowledge of C++ programming language. He must have an authentic degree in computer science or should have done courses in programming which prove his knowledge. He must have experience working with object-oriented design, data structures, pointers, multithreading, and applications programming. He must have good decision-making skills and should know how to avoid risks. He must be able to construct efficient programs and comprehend complex pre-existing codes. He must have good communication skills. Question 3: Select the preferred way to advertise for the above two positions- laboratory technician and C++ programmer. Answer: For a lab technician, newspapers and internet are the preferred way to advertise the job postings. Newspapers reach more or less every home and people consider newspapers their first priority when they are searching for jobs. Job vacancies can also be advertised on the internet via the website of the company that needs lab technicians. In the job posting, all requirements must be mentioned that the company wants in the lab technician. Main things to be mentioned in the posting are educational qualification, prior experience in maintaining computer labs, level of computer hardware and software knowledge, personal requirements like good communication, problem-solving and supervising skills, and salary. Same is the case for the job posting of a C++ programmer. Here, the preferred ways for advertising are newspapers and contacts. Advertisements can be given in paper with a listing of all requirements like education, any teaching experience, depth of knowledge about object-oriented programming, salary and other benefits. Contacts can also be of great use in finding a good C++ programmer. One’s friends or relatives can recommend someone they know who is a fresh graduate or an expert in the required field. Social networking has always benefitted in finding experts who are well suited to the job. Question 4: Prepare a list of non technical questions for the laboratory technician post. Answer: Some non-technical questions that may be asked for the lab technician post are: Tell us something about yourself. What do you know about the company you are applying for? Why do you choose this company amongst many others? Why did you leave the job you had? Did you resign or were you fired? During your last job, did the students and lab assistants look forward to you for assistance? Would you like to be a part of team or you would like to work independently? What qualities other than the technical ones do you think you possess? Why do you think we should prefer you to others applying for this job? Can you deal with suppliers and co-workers confidently? How would you react in case you experience disapproval about your work? How much salary are you expecting? How much hard work can you put in to get a promotion? Do you go to vacations too often? Have you any prior experience regarding the post of a lab technician? Do you find yourself capable of constantly learning the new up-coming technologies? What, according to you, is a perfect working environment? Question 5: What kind of help can you get from the HR department for the laboratory technician post? Answer: For a lab technician post, one can contact the HR department of the company to get information about how the computer labs are being managed and run, and what expertise other than the technical knowledge is needed to perform the job efficiently in that particular company. The HR department will be helpful in providing all necessary details about the post. You can get help in getting information about the procedure to apply for the job. One can get information about other lab technicians working there and then meet them in order to get well acquainted with the working environment and the exact requirements of the job. The HR department can also provide information about the interview that the lab technician would have to go through. It can also help you in preparing answers to the questions of the interview. After getting hired, a lab technician can get help from the HR department in arranging training sessions for new lab assistants along with the means of delivering the training. Lab technicians have to plan, manage and supervise training activities and it is the duty of the HR department to arrange training programs in classrooms or in computer labs and provide support to the lab technician.
