Designing a Website Section I: Definition of the Problem As a website designer, one must be prepared to engage in technology and more especially in the software field. In creating a new website one must have all the required resources and be prepared to clearly create a complete application of a website. There is a large number of websites on internet in which they are being created everyday in this technology field but it only takes a good website to have the best elements needed for it to function as required by the users. It is the duty of a web designer to come with a website that will satisfy the users’ requirements. In web designing all the mistakes made must be identified in good time in order to avoid challenges. Creating a website is not a problem to most of the web designers but making it to be of use is the main challenge. This also includes the power of the website to have a good interface for the customers to love it and increase traffic attendance. Most of the web designers in technology assume that they create a website for themselves by introducing their own interest factors forgetting the needs of the users hence making the website to become dormant. In such sites, there will be no users and traffic will be very low even when new users will be invited to the website. A website designer can make errors when designing the website and assume simple mistakes that will make users to avoid logging online into the website. It is the duty of a web designer to ensure that all constraints and procedures of the website are well followed. Any website designed must be included with a source search engine to be the main reference to the new users joining the website. As a web designer, you must include all the search tools needed in the website and have the right search function. One of the major search engines we have is Google which must be included into the website. Not necessarily, Google search engine, but there also exists other search engines like Yahoo and Bing. Most designers prefer to come up with their own search engines to avoid unnecessary advertisements. For a good website there must be an excellent readability and legibility in a way that the interface is well designed and attracts the customers reading the website. All the rules and regulations of the website must be well analyzed and understood by the users in the website. This captures the idea of the website to have a good constructed language that is commonly use by many of the users. Example of a common language is the USA English language that must be used in most of the design sections of the website. A choice of using more than one language should also be included in order to cater for other users who are only familiar with their native local language. The text written in the website should be readable with no problem in understanding its meaning and it should be in a very manipulative language. A website designer must avoid work that is not organized because this will make the users to run away. One major point for the designer to understand is that, any user does not read all the information posted but instead the information is scanned very quickly. With such knowledge, a web designer will be able to avoid unnecessary information that will be overcrowding the website. Navigation is another major problem a web designer faces because he is not able to create the required shortcuts to be used online by the users (Butler and Christopher 78). A website needs a standard navigation that a user should to navigate such easily in order to access all the contents in the website. If a designer introduces a new technology tab into the website, users will be able to understand it and use it easily by becoming familiar with the earlier content designs in the website. The navigation for the website should be intuitive and consistent for the users not to get lost when they are using the website. Interface designing is a major problem in most of the web designers because they create different design interfaces in every page of a website causing a total confusion to the users. Online users do not like browsing something that is confusing especially an interface design. They only need an organized website that has a uniform interface design that has related ideas that are consistent and organized with an attractive color relationship. A screen resolution is another problem web Designers face. A user can be in a website that forces him to browse horizontally destroying the good reputation of a website. It is good for a designer to create a web site that has a resolution that is of the current pixel measurements. This makes the users not to view all the site details hence loosing concentration and at the end, the user runs away. The designer must use database tools that are friendly to the website creator. For example if a designer uses a java based application tool like net beans, he should also use an apache that is java based to connect to the database. The maintenance is another problem a web site designer faces when creating a website. This should include all the measures required for the fraudural and theft control from the hackers and other dangerous enemies. Section II: Description of the Problem Design Graphics Graphics is another major key in the designing of a website where by the use of the images should be well organized and be applied into the website. The designers must avoid too much use of the images in a website because they create an obstacle in the website by distracting the user online. The images to be used should be organized and guide the user in illustrations. The logo being the first image used in the website, it should be well designed and be put in the right position of the website. The logo must be designed in a manner that its colors related with the website’s major agenda (Darrell and Keith 54). Example is Twitter social network which has the best graphic design whereby it does not have more of the graphics. As a web designer ensure that you have limited the number of graphics in order to gain more traffic. Facebook also has a limited number of graphics with the best logo for identification. It has a blue color making the logo to also have a blue color without even forgetting the link color which is also blue. Bubblews is another new website blog site that has one of the best graphics in internet history. It has a blue logo with white strips making it match with the website color (Foster 56). Database Connection The database connection must be well analyzed and be created to avoid unnecessary mistakes that will cause errors. This is the major engine of any running website given all the possible constraints. Connection between the website created and the database tools is very crucial. Make sure all the tables needed for the database are well created and the queries are run with no problem. All this will be fulfilled when a designer uses the right database tools creator. The best used is the PhpmyAdmin which organizes the tables and files of the website. PhpmyAdmin creates a good relationship with the website’s file creator and one of the best creators can be Filezilla and Weebly. All this must be followed by bearing in mind of the file host and the network provider. Depending on the use of the website, it should be under a good network provider to avoid problems when it is being used by the users. As a designer, it is very unprofessional if a website has no good communication between the file creator and the database creator. For a good ability to manage all this is by using the right programming language that you are familiar with. For example, java is the best language because it is an object oriented application that will enable a website to have all the current required features (McNeil and Patrick 43). One of the best websites that have all the required file to database relationship is Facebook and Twitter that are the best communication social networks we have in the world. They are one of the best designed online networks that most of the users like visiting because it is rear for them to have technical problems. Other downloads sites like 4share and C-net have also qualified to be the best because of the good maintenance of the websites. This gives a challenge to all the designers to follow same example and come up with the best online websites (Belew and Shannon 52). Website Protection Protecting a website is another major problem that faces most of the online websites. As a designer, you must bear in mind protection risks of the website. A designer must think of the spammers if the website is a social website. A designer must come up with a way on how to keep people’s personal information confidential. The information of the credit cards online should be the major protection. Scammers can use people’s information and spam all over the website and destroy the reputation of the website. A designer must use a strong programming object oriented program to create an encryption application to protect the website. The designer must also import tools that will secure the website from its enemies and offer the best protection (Tortorella and Neil 74). Example is the use of Microsoft windows firewall to protect the website. Another example is the use of an anti- virus that is online to protect the website when users are downloading and uploading files. The use of automated images can be of great help in order for one to be identified as human. The kind of passwords to be used for the registered members in the website should be determined by the website designer. Ensure that you have introduced the use of long passwords that will be mixed with numbers, symbols and alpha numeric words (Darrell and Keith 71). Section III: Impact Analysis Failure to achieve all the three stated strategies, a career of a website designer will come to an end causing problems and lowering the reputation of the designer. Without the good graphic and strategic designing, there will be no users in the website and as a web designer, you will loose market. Users will be coming to the website to spend only two minutes at most and disappear. Most of the websites created online are well documented and the historical background is well understood. Once you mess up with your own website, you will destroy your name and getting another job as a web designer will be a problem. In the future there will be no users online and your contract as a web designer will come to an end. Another major problem a designer must take caution is on the connection of the database. This is a problem that needs to be solved or else it may ruin the career of a website creator. This needs coding and programming that is of standard without guessing on things. A database needs a lot of binary language understanding which will enable the designer to connect the website easily to the database. If a designer does not identify the code used in the database and give out its required query, the project will be stuck and the website may not work again. Maintenance of the website will also be a problem because it needs the knowledge of the language. If the problem is not solved, the designer’s career in the project will end because there will be technical problems in the website each and every time hence no user will be online Lastly, a website without protection is like a charity work done by a web designer. If a designer does not ensure maximum protection on the website, it will be stolen or be destroyed by an enemy. A hacker may decide to steal all the information details and take over the whole project. As a designer you will loose and be forced to start a new project. Others may want to use the website user’s information to steal money from the internet and at the end a designer is the one that will be blamed and be fined.
