Green Computing Research Project Green Computing, as the suggests, is concerned with using technology in an environmentallyfriendly way. This can be done in a number of ways including the design, production, use, and disposal of tools and equipment used in the Information Technology sectors. The Green Computing Research Project seeks to ensure that it comes up with a program in environmental technologies; that will help the organization to meet its goals in environmental conservation. Some of the necessities for the accomplishment of this project are discussed in this section of the paper: a.

Telecommuting The ability to work from where you are leads to improved environmental sustainability as it reduces energy used to power computers, as well as that used for transport, paying for office space, heating, and lighting (Carrier, 2005). b. Waste Disposal Proper waste disposal is key to the sustainability of environmental conservation. Most equipment used in the information technology industry are non-biodegradable; hence, posing a significant challenge to the environment’s sustainability.

It is, therefore, necessary have reliable ways of discarding remnants of IT equipment. This can be done either by recycling components of equipment or inviting experts in e-waste management to take care of the trash. c. Resource Virtualization The company could improve environmental conservation by reducing the number of resources it utilizes. This could be done by sharing physical hardware, as well as software, amongst many users. Some of the ways of doing this include consolidating servers, sharing storage facilities, distributed computing, and sharing peripherals such as printers and scanners.

This will result in reduced energy consumption (it saves energy that would otherwise be used to power and cool extra appliances). Requirement Traceability Matrix The project will require a number of things amongst them project staff, laptops, Wikis, webcams etc. NO. Name Category Source Status 1 Project Team Human Resource HR, Consultants In progress 2 Capital Expenditure Sponsor Allocated 3 Laptops Hardware Corporate, Personal, Public Increasing 4 Wiki Software Purchase/Develop Incomplete 5.

Webcams Hardware Purchase Incomplete 6. Printer/Scanner/Fax Hardware Corporate Available Scope Statement The project cuts across many departments; hence, the importance of ensuring that the scope of the project is well defined. In order to do so, it is necessary to involve all interested stakeholders in the determination of requirements, their specification, implementation, and termination (Kerzner, 2009). This will be necessary to ensure that all requirements are recorded to enable the venture to accomplish its goal of embracing Green Computing.

The goal of this project is to analyze sectors of green computing, providing a detailed report on the various areas of application, together with financial overviews and recommendations. The fields under study include: a. Telecommuting b. Resource virtualization c. Waste disposal. d. Asset mobilization e. Resource Management. The success of the project will be gauged based on the achievement of the following deliverables: i. Scope statement ii. Requirements matrix iii. Change request form iv.

Gantt chart v. Research report capturing all possible applications of green computing. vi. Project Proposal vii. Project Report viii. Design documents and software code References Carrier, B. (2005).
