Radio and television are very effective in transferring news and views to the public. What we hear and see affects us much more than what we read. Also, these tools have become a part of contemporary pop culture and it is impossible for the public to stay away or avoid such widely used tools. Keep it simple. Make an outline. Write a one-sentence long tease. Write a lead sentence. Write the body which must have 100 words for a 30 seconds news release. Write a one-sentence conclusion. Proofread before handing over to the copy-editor.

Other basic guidelines: copy should be typed, double-spaced and in uppercase; date should be on the first page; paragraphs should be indented; no semi-colons and abbreviations; and, important phrases should be underlined. Stay objective.
