?Reflective account Introduction In this project, we had to produce a solution for an exclusive holiday company d Prive. Over the years, Prive has developed good relations with and repute among the customers as well as with the owners of premium accommodations so as to make exclusive deals with them. Now, that Prive has earned a name for offering 5 star holiday packages all across the UK, Prive wants to expand the business to reach a point where customers can access the information and make bookings online. To achieve this, Prive needs to have a website and database and a justifiable payment method. Our team’s job was to conduct a thorough study and analysis of the modeling techniques and methodologies to be able to develop a suitable software for the company. Personal account We were six team members. Although I actively participated in each and every stage of the project from the planning till delivery, yet my main contribution in the project was the design of website. It was a very big responsibility as the design of website would be what will be seen by the client, which in our case was Prive and the customers that would be using the website once it is launched. The design of website of a company has a fundamental role to play in the customer’s perceptions about the company. Customers tend to draw inferences about the company from the first impression that is lent by the website. It was my responsibility to make the design look both perfect and professional. It was a fairly tough task in that the design is constantly revised and modified until the product is delivered to the client. So my job would not finish with the completion of design as it had to be constantly revised and modified according to the ideas we explored along the way. I had to design wireframe sketches for the website. To achieve this, I conducted a thorough review of the existing models and tried different combinations to reach a fairly decent and professional design. Bob used my designs to construct the website using the software “Adobe Dreamweaver”, while Jack worked upon the launching of website and its presentation to Prive. Dan conducted the feasibility study of this project for Prive. Martha and Susan selected useful models from an extensive literature review. Feelings At the start of the project, I felt very nervous as I had never done a project as complex as this ever before. During our passage through the project, there were times when we were stuck, there were times when we had disputes and times when we celebrated. After I was done, all of us were filled with the feeling of joy mixed with relief. Evaluation One of the most difficult parts of the project for me was to gain the consent of all team members upon the design of wireframe sketches I had proposed. It was a very tough task to develop the design and customize it according to the needs of our project and then to gain everybody’s consent and approval upon it. While it was very easy for my team members to raise questions and criticize the designs I had selected, it was equally difficult for me to justify my selection with logic. It not only required a great deal of brainstorming as well as knowledge of the contemporary techniques and themes that go into the design of a website, but also the skill to stand my point among the critics and make them acknowledge the significance of my selection. I worked very hard upon it and after a number of revisions, managed to gain everybody’s consent upon the design I had proposed. Analysis While it required a lot of convincing power to get the final design approved by all team members, I would not underestimate the complexity of jobs of my team members. Particularly, the team member, Bob, who had to actually construct the website by implementing the designs I had proposed did a lot of hard work. It required deep knowledge of computer programming to implement the design in the software. Bob first made a template website which was a preliminary step in the formation of the final website. Again, Bob also had to seek everybody’s approval for the template in order to finalize it and develop it to the level of the final website. I had to work in close collaboration with Bob because every comment that he was required to address in the template required slight modification of design as well. So, from this aspect, it was a mutual task of Bob and I. While the module has done a lot to build my technical knowledge, it has also provided me with frequent opportunities to work in a group, which is a very important learning in context of the contemporary work culture wherein people from different cultural backgrounds have to work upon one platform to achieve common objectives. The gaps I happened to identify in my knowledge while doing this project include lack of knowledge of the use of the Adobe Dreamweaver software. I tried to fill this gap by learning it from Bob, yet I need more practice. Overall, it was a wonderful experience for me as it inculcated both technical skills and skills of teamwork in me. Conclusions If it were to start from zero, things that we as a team would have done differently would include planning, and time management. In the start, we wasted a lot of time deciding who would undertake what activity. From day one, we tried to move as a self-managed team. But now, that we have reached the end, I realize that it would have been better had we selected a leader from amongst us from the very first day. There were times when our productivity was lost in dysfunctional conflicts which could have been better managed had there been a leader. I believe that it was a very valuable experience for all of us. The area I would like to work more upon is learning computer programming and software use. Use of softwares brings pleasure into work once you know how to use them. I have already learnt a lot from Bob. In order to be successful in the career, a fresh candidate needs to be equipped with certain skills and qualities as experience comes only with time. Basically, what is important is to have the right attitude. One should have the urge to learn and deliver. This module has contributed a lot in inculcating both in me. Read More
