? Three Assignment Topics September 26, Three Assignment Topics Information technology enhances the marketing environment. The research delves on the on three information technology topics. The research delves on the importance of blending marketing concepts and information technology. Marketing increases demand for information technology products and services. 1. Ideas Change (Turkle). Sherry Turkle’s position change. Sherry Turkle currently insists that robots and technology are made to serve the needs of the people, not the people serving the needs of the computers stating, “We deserve better. When we remind ourselves that it is we who decide how to keep technology busy, we shall be better (Turkle, 2011, p.296).” The Turkle comments criticize the current situation where people cannot survive without technology. Children prefer staying indoors. While inside, the children prefer playing computer games, surfing the internet and online relationships. The children have discarded the prior setup where children prefer face to face games with their neighbors, classmates, and relatives. Turkle insists that people should use computers and other technology devices as tools for increasing face to face communication, relationships, and other physical activities like basketball, volleyball, baseball, chess, and the like. Its difference from her findings in the past. Comparing her findings in the past, Turkle preferred that man cannot survive without technology, especially robots. Sherry Turkle emphasized that her 1984 position was for authenticity. Thus, a person is a better analyst, calculator, decision maker, and creator, when compared to a computer. The computer only follows what its software instructs it to do. On the other hand, the human being can insert other alternative procedures to one question, predicament, or activity. Authenticity is, “what sex was to the Victorians – threat and obsession, taboo and fascination. I have lived with this idea for many years (Wilks, 2010; p.9…)”. Turkle was initially obsessed to come up with new technology that will reduce the individual’s physical exertion. For example, Turkle prefers that that computers and technology do the mailing of the individual’s correspondences. During the good old days, people would go the nearest store to buy a pen, paper, and envelope. The person would scribble messages on the paper. Next, the person would seal the letter inside the mailing envelope. Consequently, the person would ride the bus or train to the nearest post office. Upon arriving, the person will line up a long queue of people mailing their envelopes. After the post office clerk receives the person’s envelope, the person returns home. The entire process may take two to four hours, depending upon the traffic situation and the distance between the person’s home and the post office. In addition, Turkle prefers that all persons email their messages. Emails reach their intended receiver with a split second. The entire encoding and emailing process may take less than ten minutes. During the entire email process, the person is hiding behind the closed doors. Similarly, the person can order goods and services online. The person can click the McDonald’s website, and the McDonald’s crew ill deliver the hamburgers to the person’s home. Consequently, the person reduces face to face encounters. This is the essence of Turkle’s prior stand. 2. WHO DID IT? (Isaacson) Steve Jobs, more than anyone else, is responsible for today's digitech culture. Steve jobs created Apple computers. Before his untimely death, Steve Jobs orchestrated the user friendly computer environment. Steve Jobs was the visionary of product perfection, paving the bright and widening path of computer world conquering. Steve jobs would burn the midnight oil crafting new computer technologies. With infighting brewing up, Steve Jobs left the company that he had founded, Apple. After several years, Apple was on the brink of financial destruction. Consequently, Steve Jobs returned to Apple to rescue it from its projected bankruptcy path. Before his death, Apple had grown to one of the most sought after business companies in the world (Elliot, 2011). With the invention of the IPod, Steve Jobs presented a marketing slide for the launch of the Apple IPod series. The PowerPoint presentation showed that the Apple stores will sell a magical and revolutionary product at unbelievable prices. The IPod series is one of Apple’s million dollar success stories. The product offers many features of the computer. In addition, the product offers the comfort of carrying data and other processing needs within a lightweight computer device. The secret to Steve Jobs’ success is his mastery of storytelling. His PowerPoint presentations always inspired the officers and employees. The presentations ignited the company’s product demand statistics to catapult to skyrocketing heights by offering a product that the average person or company greatly needs (Gallo, 2012). 3. Being the 900 millionth user on Facebook does give on a competitive advantage, contrary to Kirkpatrick’s personal opinion. The Facebook website offers its members a significant competitive advantage (http://transcripts.cnn.com). The members can chat all day with their friends, classmates, relatives, and lovers all day long. Facebook allows the members to reduce the cost of communicating. Comparing Facebook chatting with using the phone to have a four hour long distance call to a lover in Germany, Africa, Australia, Japan, China, or Guatemala would be very costly, depending on the distance from the United States individual’s location and the other person’s current location. Likewise, Facebook allows “face to face conversation”. The webcam allows both Facebook members to see the other person’s face, body, surroundings, and other eye-catching details. The webcam reduces the need to travel thousands of miles to have a physical or face to face conversation. Driving one’s car to the airport in order to reach the other person who is living in another country would be very expensive. In addition, Facebook allows the its members to sell goods and services online. Further, some members have set up their own Facebook ecommerce websites to sell goods and services. Facebook allows its members to pay for advertising space. With over 900 million users of Facebook, many companies have jumped into the band wagon. Many companies, organizations, groups, or individuals have invested in Facebook. Their investments are called advertising spaces. An individual pays a certain amount to the Facebook administration to advertise the individual’s or entities’ products and services. When the millions of Facebook members visit their Facebook page, they are bombarded with advertisements. The members see lots of advertisements on the right side of their Facebook account. The advertisers are happy to pay Facebook advertising money. In return, the advertising generates an increase in the demand for the company’s products and services. Furthermore, some Facebook members are eager to see the advertisers’ products and services. Some advertisers offer jobs. Adwords is another Google advertising scheme. The Facebook members pay only for the number of clicks made by the Facebook members. The jobless members can click on the advertisers’ contact information. With luck, the advertisers can give the jobless Facebook members a job. The advertisers can sell products and services that are desperately needed by the Facebook members. Advertising benefits both the Facebook advertisers and the Facebook members. The Facebook membership includes the Facebook advertisers (Carter, 2011). In addition, Facebook also allows the members to play games. Some players stay all day long playing Farmville, petville, pico, chess, and other Facebook games. The Facebook members can play games against each other in pico, chess, and other Facebbook games. The Facebook games allow the members more than enough entertainment. The major advantages of online games far outweigh the advantages of physical games, in some environments. In a location where gang wars are prevalent, people are better off playing Facebook games. The chess enthusiast can play Facebook’s chess game for 14 straights hours a day. The Facebook member will generate the same excitement defeating an online human opponent as competing physically against a face-to-face opponent. Four P’s of Marketing. Marketing is enhanced in the Facebook environment. The advertisers offer quality products. McDonalds can offer its hamburgers, coffee products, floats, and other products to the exhausted Facebook member. As the Facebook member reaches one’s five grueling hours of online gaming or chatting, a timely pizza advertisement that offers free delivery products at discount prices or free delivery rates will surely trigger the Facebook members’ hunger fangs. The hungry and thirsty Facebook member eagerly clicks the McDonald’s advertisement and orders a free delivery BigMac burger and coffee. After making the online order using a credit card, the Facebook member will immediately return on his or her Farmville game to fee the escaping cow. The McDonald’s transaction makes two Facebook members happy. The two Facebook members are the Facebook game player and the Facebook advertiser. In addition, the Facebook member advertisers offer their products are reasonable prices. Facebook visitors will easily be tempted to buy products sold at discounted prices. The Facebook members can offer free products. With the free products, the Facebook advertiser gets lots of email addresses. Next, the Facebook advertiser sends low-priced products to the happy customers. This is the essence of pricing products and services. Further, the Facebook member advertisers sell their products in a very accessible place. The Facebook members can easily see the advertisements on the right side of the Facebook page. With the visibility of the advertisements, the Facebook advertisers’ product sales will rise to above normal levels. Marketing essence includes making the products very accessible to the current and prospective customers. Furthermore, the Facebook members advertisers are currently engaged in the fourth marketing mix principle. After price, product, and place, the last marketing mix P is promotion. Promotion is synonymous with advertising. Promotion includes spreading the many advantages of buying the Facebook members’ products and services at reasonable prices. Facebook members can upload their videos and pictures. A Los Angeles daughter can upload her graduation pictures to her Facebook account in order to share the monumental event with her parents in Canada. The uploading will benefit the Canadian parents, especially if financial constraints and time constraints prevent the parents from attending the daughter’s graduation. The son can also upload the video of his marriage. The siblings, who live in Australia, can happily appreciate the pictures. The son does not have to send the picture through snail mail. Sending the pictures through snail mail is too time-consuming. Likewise, snail mail is too costly compared to uploading the videos into the Facebook account. Based on the above third discussion topic, Facebook is significantly popular. The facebook members can communicate with their loved ones, friends, and other individuals or entities using chat or message format. Each member has the power to upload picture and videos. The Facebook members can sell products and buy products within the Facebook website. Summarizing the above topic, information technology boosts the marketing atmosphere. Information technology augments the individuals’ and entities’ daily activities. The synergy between marketing principles and information technology explodes into profitable transactions. Evidently, marketing increases demand for information technology products and services into higher sales levels. REFERENCES: Carter, B. (2011).
