Assignment No. 2 Roll No: Teacher: 14th May 2009 Number Perceptions of Technology My Perception of Information Technology According to my perception, the information technology that is employed in nowadays businesses involves computers, software programs, networking, electronic high-tech devices, security systems and much more. The technology that is used nowadays is much more communicating and linking people together such as in businesses all over the world, global linkage is created with the help of websites dealing with online businesses, cell phones and other communicating devices such as fax machines, pagers and many other tools are used. I use cell phone, computer, internet and software programs in the lieu of information technology. As far as the disadvantages are concerned, viruses are created that keep the capacity of infecting the information saved in a system. Moreover, it appears that people are getting away from physical exercises, as they are much involved I doing computerized tasks. I would like to have a fully computerized cell phone with the help of which, I can do all my computer related tasks. Movie that Uses Information Technology The movie that I have selected for the review of information technology is “GoldenEye”. It is one among the James Bond series and uses a lot of information technology such as computer systems, emailing, data management, information retrieval, online data access, digital photography and much more. James Bond uses computer accessories for accessing to information and the information that is also secret and confidential is accessed online by the villain of the story. James Bond along with some other characters are shown as mastering the technology but of course, James Bond is the best among them, as he can access all kinds of information that he needs. The technology that deals with the use of power such as the pen by which, a grenade can be set off is portrayed fantastically. James Bond’s movies are always welcoming new technologies and also showing ways for new technologies to come. Number 2: Excel Functions Research The web resource for teaching Excel that I have selected is www.techonthenet.com. This resource informs in detail about the Excel and its usage. It informs about the functions and procedures on Excel. The function that I have learnt on internet because of this website is Excel: Min Function. The Min Function, according to the web resource is able to give the least value among many other values. For example, among 2, 4, 6, 2 is the minimum value and the Min Function will give that value. We can place the sign of “is equal to” that is “=” and then write Min, afterwards, we put braces. In the braces, we have to give the numbers from which, we have to find the minimum number. This web resource is not only for students but also for teachers as teachers can use this site for helping students in their learning by following the lessons given at the site. This resource is a useful tool for learners of Excel. When one accesses this website teaching resource, he/she is not given only instructions but also visual descriptions and examples about the usage of software. Therefore, according to my perception, it is a unique resource for teaching Excel. Number 3: Topic Questions The need of Communication in Understanding Business in 21st Century Communication has played to be a crucial tool in the 21st century. Businesses all over the world understand the importance of communication in their expansion and success. The businesses of today’s world identify that without communication, they are not going to prosper. In businesses, not only internal communication but also external communication is extremely important (Drucker, 1977). Internal communication is all about the management and the employees of the organizations and is essential for a successful business. Likewise, external communication is also necessary to be effective, as it is between the business, customers and outside business resources. Successful communication results in developing good relationships between the employers and employees, between the consumers and the sellers (Drucker, 1977). Good and effective communication helps the better co-ordination and efficient control. It results in clear understanding, good production, healthy climate within the organization, willing co-operation among the various levels of management and general good will. It always brings good dividend. Because of effective communication, the businesspersons can communicate effectively and successfully. Effective communication is a part of good communication. Communication is a tool of management that plays a key role in decision-making. The greater is the organization, the greater is the role of communication. The production, regulation of quality, quality control and distribution of goods and services is impossible without effective communication (Drucker, 1977). In today’s world, communication is essential, as businesses are growing global due to which, it is necessary for them to access customers on global basis. Without effective communication, the businesses have no chance of development and advancement. Therefore, communication is overwhelming tool for business success in today’s world. Information as Supportive for Decision Making in Business Information is essential for decision-making process in any business. In businesses, at every step of a business procedure, decision-making is required. The management of a business needs to access the right information at the right time (Power, 2000). For this information access and retrieval, information systems are developed, which facilitate the managers and other staff members with required information in minimum possible time. The information wanted by mangers can be about financial transactions, business reports and summaries, human capital and much more. With information systems, they can get required information easily and in much little time. Information is needed for every kind of decision making such as buying new machinery, hiring a new manager or launching a new product, therefore, information needs to be managed and stored, so that it can be used when needed. Information moves from one level of management to others, therefore, the information systems designed for information management should be employed in order to transmit the needed information for decision making from one level to another. The information needs to be retrieved and interpreted correctly (Tutor2u, 2009). It cannot be said that decision-making takes place at one level of management of business. Decision-making takes place on all levels of businesses due to which, information is needed at all levels of businesses (Tutor2u, 2009). Information and decision-making work together as one is needed to support other. Without information, decision-making is not possible. Number 4: Course Reflection The assignments and the activities that I have undertaken in this course have supported me extensively in gaining new knowledge and learning. The questions that were asked in the assignments helped me to do researches about various topics. Along with useful researches, I was also able to find various websites, books and articles that were very supportive in facilitating learning. The course as a whole can be considered as an opportunity for the students to learn more and more. The course considered new aspects of technology and software programs that are a great help for future success of students. The course as a whole helped me to learn but the questions that wanted me to take help of websites were the most supportive and helping as through their help, I was able to get knowledge of useful websites and I also gained knowledge about how to make use of the websites as researching and learning tools. There are many websites that provide helpful content for students to learn. the activities that made me think were about the usage of technology in businesses and as a whole understanding of businesses with new tools. The topics such as communication, decision making and social media also let me ponder over the issues much more as they are not some meager topics but very lengthy. To explain them in so short space needed much more thinking. Nothing is impossible in terms of learning. However, students face difficulties while doing their assignments because they do not have skill to do works excellently or they are not previously aware of all the things. The difficulty that I faced while doing my assignments dealt with reading and searching the appropriate content that I should include in my paper. For that purpose, I consumed enough time in reading and finding the most appropriate content for my assignments. Although, this process helped me in getting the closest answers to the questions but still, this stage was difficult. I enjoyed searching and writing about the information technology, as this topic interested me extensively. However, the search for the right movie for very demanding as I selected not one but many movies and I also viewed them. After seeing them, I selected the one, which appeared most suitable and appropriate to me. Informatics is very useful. Today’s world is the world of informatics as we can see usage of information technology in every field of the world; therefore, we cannot deny the importance of informatics. With the passage of time and with increasing usage of information technology, the learning of information technology has become overly essential. If in today’s world, one is not aware of information technology, he/she is considered as lacking some crucial part of life. As a whole, I liked the course as it very informative and supportive. With the help of given assignments, I was able to learn more and better. Therefore, according to my perception, the course along with its assignments and activities was helpful for me in advancing forward. References Drucker, P. (1977). People and Performance.
