Extract of sample "The Importance of Learning Other Languages"

The main aim of studying bi languages is the need to create greater cohesion in internationally and also to come up with ways in which people will acknowledge the cultural behaviour of other countries (Leo & Corson, p.104). It assists one to appreciate and recognize the importance of learning other people’s way of life. It is important to note that understanding of the other country’s language shows some interest in resting the issues that may have been troublesome and also help them understand better the stand of their partner. It is through this that I can learn how to work in different fields that do require me to be professionally trained to fit into international companies and other areas of operation. This is an added advantage to me as I will bee able to work better as an employee. It is an important issue also here in school as I will be able to communicate with my friends from different language backgrounds. Lack of integrated social skills was a hindrance towards my complete association with my fellow classmates due to the initial language barrier that made it difficult to communicate effectively. The rate of adapting to this cultural setting was one of the most difficult things due to the lack of similarity between my culture and all the other cultures that I met here proved to be a straining factor. Another thing that was hard at first was the fact that there were great differences among our education system back at home and also the adjustments to these new modes of academic qualifications were also not very easy. It is through this that I learnt to look for more friends from the host country to come up with ways in which I could handle the demanding academic qualifications and also be able to handle this subject in an effective manner. It is a challenge studying a language outside your own and this requires one to have more than just patience to undergo the process of mustering the art of communication before I could eventually become good at whatever I was doing. It is through commitment that I was able to come up with my own ways in which I could study languages of other cultures and be able to perfectly use them without hesitation. It is clear that the difficulties in this subject are mostly contained in the attitude of a person and require one to have willing conscience to deal with the difficulties head on (Leo & Corson, 105). I also had difficulties in decoding words to come up with the intended meaning and also to come up with what was expected of me. This however with time died out and was countered by the fact that my commitment to understanding the language and customs of my host country made me counter this with ease though it was difficult at first. Another thing was that I had a slow reading rate that really handicapped me at the first days in school and this made it very difficult to keep up with the rest of the class but with time, I improved on my reading skills and managed to be at par with the rest of the students. Other difficulties were with the organisation of the work in terms of the language fluency and proficiency given the fact that the language was still not well understood as it was still new to me. I however gained experience and was able to come up with ways in which I could express my self not only orally but also in written work. Other difficulties also included the spelling of words and also learning to get the right way in which phonetic spelling or where to put which consonants and vowels could be placed. The subject is of great importance in that those who study it help others to appreciate the customs and norms of people who are different from them in both states. The subject helps us to come up with ways in which we can correlate with our fellow people in a way that ensures we come up with a stronger relationship that continuously comes up with respectful ways in which we can handle situations from another culture without hurting those that are involved. It is clear that the people in this class have found what coincides with their culture and looked for similarities in them and have also been able to come up with ways in which they can bridge the bridges that separate them. Learning foreign languages also assist in bring about international understanding and cohesion as people are able to reason in the same way given that they are talking the same language and in common terms. It is a clear ay in which we can come together and handle international issues without having to deal with where one comes from but with the ideologies one puts across. It is through much determination that we have the best of the interaction and the study of bi languages assists a lot in bringing together all the people irrespective of their cultural background and also irrespective of their customs in the home countries. The creation of good international relations is important as the way the hierarchy of command follows determines how the intended information will be communicated to those that are supposed to communicate the message to those obligated with the task of implementing the policies (Leo & Corson, 106). Looking global issues from a different perspective in terms of language creates more room for analysis as one is able to write intensively about the subject intensively and extensively in a manner that will assist them to evaluate the basic concepts of the intended message. This is so far the best way to disseminate information from those in power to those that are supposed to implement the policies (Leo & Corson, 106). Presenting this information is however a challenge as the risk of distorting the message is very high. It is important to note that people should take a lot of precautions while handling information that would likely cause tension among the people in the class as well as to their friends who might not be aware that you are just training to speak their language and you are not yet fluent in it. It is important to come up with the real message that was supposed to be relayed to the other party to avoid creating any ill feelings among the concerned parties. It is clear that coming up with synonymous words that imply the same with the other language the translation is coming from is a very challenging issue indicating that the people in the transcription room must work illustriously to handle all the information in a way that all the parties will be satisfied. Spelling mistakes are the other common problems involved in coming up with a document that is to be presented in two diverse languages. It is through thoroughly practice that people will come up with error free presentations. There are many advantages of learning different languages. First of all it ensures that people in the audience benefit from the information without having to be translated to by people who might give wrong information other than what is being presented. It is clear that all those listening to u will have ways in which they can give their comments and ask for clarification if the information is not precise. This creates more understanding and thus will assist more people to come up with ways in which the information can be used without the risk of distortion. It is also a way in which one shows that they appreciate the other people’s culture (Leo & Corson, 107). It is a clear way in which students understand the value base of the profession and its ethical standards and principles in general. This also creates room for students to understand and interpret the history of these foreign languages with ease without compromising on the intended message and also help them understand more on the issues that consist of the current situations in the world. The only way that we can assist the people improve the quality of research into the learning issue is through ensuring that the basic principles of language pedagogy, use and structure are taught in a conclusive way to ensure that people do get the intended message without missing on the required impact. However, there are disadvantages of this too. One can easily modify the information presented to reflect what he thinks should be the case hence distorting the message that was to be passed on to the people. There is a grave concern on the type of words used to describe some of the important words. This implies that they can give another implication other than the intended one to ensure that they come up with the required means of presenting the information in a precise and concise manner. Those that may not be quite clear on the way to handle the multi-language issues will imply that the people may have very diverse issues when it comes to the interpretation of the whole process and acknowledging the value of embracing the changing world (Leo & Corson, 107). The main restraints in this subject were the acquisition of materials that enables one to acquire the required to conclusively handle the topic to satisfaction. Materials are very hard to come by given the fact that people in the school have not yet embraced the bi language studies conclusively. It is clear that people in this subject are also not that informed when it comes to the kind of materials that are supposed to be used to cover the subject completely. A comprehensive coverage of the subject involves consultation with a lot of materials that are related but that is not the case as the materials available here are not many and cannot be used comprehensively by all the people in the class. Time is another resource that is a major restraint in this subject given the fact that the concentration is a major factor that needs to be constituted into the subject to understand this subject better. There is a need to be more vigilant in the ways that the spelling and language transcription is done given the. The other thing that was also created a barrier was the pronunciation and the way that the information could be presented to the people and not missing the message because of the pronunciation of words (Leo & Corson, 108). This has however taught me the essence of patience in handling certain issues that are of grave concern to the people from other ethnic backgrounds. It has taught me how to handle issues in a more realistic and specific manner rather than in a general manner. I intend to use this to help me in future relations taking into considerations the fact that it is important to create a clear way in which we can relate with each other without hurting emotions in whatever manner. It is clear that the respect of other people’s culture is a clear way of attaining individual respect as well as praise. It has opened my eyes to the simple things that people overlook while doing mediations and this means that I have a place to start in my career given the present research knowledge. There is need to improve on the way that people handle the affairs that require national attention given the fact that time is to be utilized in teaching people on the benefits of having close ties with those from different ethnic backgrounds. It is also important to come up with the best strategy of handling these issues as they determine the extent in which cohesion among people is maintained or upheld.
