Importance of English for Health Management A language is something which pertains to human beings and differentiates us forms other living creatures on earth. It is a way of expression, a tool to communicate and also a medium through which we can express feelings, emotions and attitudes. Over the years, English has shaped up as the most popular and widely spoken language all over the globe. The rich literature, and the wealthy knowledge enshrined in it, has made it a medium of exchange at all levels: schools, colleges, internet and offices. This mass penetration has a greater influence on the students of this age, where communication is becoming more and more vital, focal and radical. Why has it become so essential to learn and master English? Why is it an ever growing concern, to improve English speaking and writing skills for students in today’s world? Well the answer is very clear and lucid. Although other languages have their own value, worth and significance based on their local values and culture, but English, over the period, has fashioned into a source of communication that rightly links the whole world and amalgamate people from different cultures and religions as they are today (kumar, 2008-09). Due to this ability of English, it has become compulsory to learn it, as it is impossible to thrive, grow and relate to people without the help of English. So not only people who have English as their national language, but also people all over the world have to master this language whether he is a politician, worker, student or businessmen. The acceptance of English as an international language has made it compulsory for everyone to polish their English language skills for their own advantage. We can get the idea of the mass usage of English by shedding light on the fact that English outnumbers the Chinese language, in terms of sheer numbers of speakers, with approximately 1500 million speakers. Based on these facts and following reasons, I realized that it is mandatory for me to learn English for my own advantage. (Exforsys Inc) Firstly, I have planned to travel abroad to complete my education, and to enhance their skills. The most critical issue, I am afraid I will face; is my inability to communicate in the class room with teachers and students and this can lead to not only negative impact on my studies but also can hinder my acceptance in the society. Thus in order to communicate during class discussions and to give ones input, it is essential to master a language. Practically, it is impossible to learn different language of different countries. So the best and the most effective option is to learn English, as it is accepted as an international language and is used by the teachers and students of all prestigious institutions for communication purposes. (LAMALIPMIM) Lack of understanding and inability to grasp the true meaning of words and sentences can seriously act as a major drawback for me. (Robbins, 1988) Secondly, employers all over the world expect their workers to speak and write English fluently. There are multi-nationals which are operating in various countries and expect from their top management to be able to communicate effectively in English. Companies all over the world, which can be my potential employer, follow the same policy as they want their employees to be able to converse with the offices in various countries. Thus, in order to attract an employer, I must focus on building English language skills so that the chances of a good job may multiply based on my language skills. (Kumar) Moreover, alike many of my friends, I have the dream of working in different countries and at different places so that I may be proffered with various job opportunities, which would help me develop my career. Communicating with the local public, shopping in the mall, dealing with everyday issues, and skimming through reports and surveys are everyday activities. Also, major surveys and reports all over the countries, are published in English which are a useful guide for study. Therefore, in turn to grasp the true meaning of the reports, and to understand and communicate with the people in various countries, it is of paramount importance that I should develop English language skills. Without this, I will find it impossible to communicate not only my daily life issues, but also issues related to the job and society, pertaining to different countries in different parts of the world. Furthermore, an analysis and research was carried out to review and calculate the extent to which English is used as an international language for study and learning purposes. The result of the research proffered a new dimension, which again emphasized the vitality of English language for me. The results depicted that most peer to peer journals, technical periodicals, specialized books, and novels are printed in the international language ‘English’ and also the education ministries around the world have mandated the teaching of English to at least a basic level.. So it is obligatory for readers and learners like me, who consult books and journals on daily basis, to learn English so that they may assimilate whatever they read (Maher, 1986) Resume is the first expression and presentation of any employee. Alike, for students of health management, resume contains supreme importance and so its best presentation and structuring is essential. Language is the soul of a CV. The better my resume is written, free from mistakes in a coherent manner, the greater the chances of better communication and understanding between me and my employer. English language has become a standard language for writing and compiling resumes. Most of the resumes are written in English and so learning English is necessary to apply for a job and for getting the desired job. This goes for everyone looking for a job, to masters their English language skills, so that they may be able to compile a CV acceptable to employers. (Tailoring your CV for job application in different countries) Lastly, learning English will help me consult a greater number of books, reference books and articles placed in any library or on internet. This is because; all the major big libraries in the world have the biggest collection of books that are written in English, particularly those pertaining to students. This is not only relevant to physical libraries, but also electronic libraries. All these mass collector of books and reading material have the best collection printed in English language as it is the international language. Similarly, English has gained the title of universal language on net because of the political and economical importance of English speaking countries. Therefore, in order to effectively surf and search data on net, need to have a clear understanding of English so that I may gain maximum advantage of the available material and knowledge. (Korpela, 1995) But on the contrary, we cannot overlook the importance of learning various languages apart from English. Although English is the most spoken language but learning other widely spoken languages like French, German and Chinese can be of advantage too. Learning different languages can increase the number of articles, books, documentaries and magazines that any student can read through. Consequently, researching and reading in different languages can help one gain more as many of the data is overlooked during translations. Moreover, learning a new language is like learning a new culture, a new life and a new mentality. As a student, this will augment the horizons of one’s thinking, give more exposure and allow one to think matters from various dimensions. Also in developed countries like Germany, only few universities offer courses in English. Others offer courses in Germany. Students looking forward to studying in countries like Germany, France and china which are well known for their education system should learn this language in order to get admission and study there. In a nutshell, we can conclude that the importance of English language today is enormous due to the fact that it is: International Language, official language, and is primary language used in international affair, international trade and commerce. Consequently, one should improve his English language skills, as this will give him an added advantage in every step throughout his career. But side by side, we cannot eschew the need of learning other languages as well. Because in this globalized world, where students tend to travel to various countries for education, one cannot study effectively by just learning English.
