Rational: This topic would be great interest for all the oversea students who are willing to continue their studies in UK because this paper would be giving them a perfect guidance to achieve their goal and would to prove to be a motivating factor for them. Oversea students have many questions in their minds regarding their study plans in UK. In this research I have tried to answer all their queries regarding the subject which would be very helpful and motivating for them. This research would be helpful to all the nonresident students of United Kingdom and who want to come to UK for studding purposes and to accomplish their career goals. Apart from this, the current oversea students can also benefit through this research. The research Questions: Q1) why oversea students prefer UK than any other state? Q2) what motivates them to leave their mother land for the sake of study? Q3) how a degree from UK effects their working opportunities? Q4) how far do their expectations get fulfilled aafter making so much monetary and timely investment? Aims and objectives: The aim of this research paper is to identify and analyze the factors which influence and motivate oversea students to come to study in UK. I have chosen this topic for my research because I am also an oversea student who was pretty much motivated to study in UK since very beginning but this did not proved to be something very easy for me. I had faced my obstacles in my way to achieve this highly reputable degree and now I believe that motivation is not only required at the initial stage but it is required throughout the process therefore I am working on this project with an objective to motivate students who are willing to study in UK but are unable to do so for any reason and to keep the current oversea students motivated and focused. Introduction: UK is a whole mix of cultures. People from far off places come to this land for the sake of studying, learning, experiencing ad improve their present lifestyle. UK is really diversified in all fields. Here universities offer very good opportunities to the foreign students of learning. English language was developed in England and it is their mother tongue. All everyone speak English there accent is slightly different for the foreign students but once you get here it becomes easy for you to understand their accent and speak the language fluently. There are many factors that motivates and influence students to come and study UK in which the peaceful and committed environment of the UK plays the most important role. UK promises it students to give them the quality exposure along with an everlasting exposure and it really fulfills this promise. Literature review: Motivation is basically a stimulus that drives a need to be fulfilled (Robbins 25). Not only major decisions and task are performed successfully because of motivation but also the smallest achievements are made due to motivation. For instance, you cannot perform well on a quiz if you were not motivated enough to gain good marks. There are two main components of motivation which actually encouraged a person to achieve something they are intrinsic factors and extrinsic factors. As the name indicates intrinsic factors are present within an individual such as need for appreciation, self actualization etc. and extrinsic factors are external factors which motivate a person to do some task for the external environment such as for the sake of the society. Whenever there is some sort of motivation these two factors are present there so in the case of oversea students who come to study in UK. Many students come to study in UK because they want a complete English speaking environment. Since English is recognized as an international language and no big organization would appoint you if you don’t have command over the English language and to learn a language with all its styles and accent one needs to get the perfect environment and the universities in UK provide this perfect environment to their students where they not only get to learn about their specific subjects but also they get to know an entirely new lifestyle (Cheltenham: Higher Education Statistics Agency 35). In UK you would find people from all over the world belonging to different religions, races, cultures, customs and lifestyles. When one gets an opportunity to spend some time with them then he/she gets an exposure to an entirely new world. One gets to learn a lot of things through intermingling wtih many different people which ultimately leads to new experiences and friendships which lasts forever and prove to be very healthy and benefitting for the person. Another reason for the foreign students to plan their studies in UK is that the British are considered to be tolerant, humorous and cultured people who have a great history and are pretty successful in the recent times than the rest of the world. The environment here is very peaceful and supportive for the students who want to achieve something really high in their lives (U.S. Dept. of Labor 119). UK is very hospitable in the sense that it fulfills all the basic necessities of its residents such as travel, health, safety, work, education, food, entertainment, etc. the students do not feel the stress of studies over here return satisfied to their homes. The degrees obtained from the universities of the UK have a great prestige and are recognized with respect throughout the world. Students who graduate from here usually don not face much trouble in finding perfect jobs for themselves in their home lands. Hence it is a major factor due to which they feel motivated to come and study in England (Hernon & Dugan 87). Studing in UK really improves an individual’s personality because in UK they believe in innovations, generating and experiencing new ideas. They really support discoveries and inventions. They have a very good student funding programs for oversea students which really encourage these students to gain experience and to try out new things. In UK they provide job opportunities to foreign students through which they can really enhance their CV and language skills. There is high speed internet and parcel delivery service available to all the foreign students which benefit them in contacting back to home. There are very good calling services and deals are available which are always working interruptedly. Methodology: Research setting: UK is serving many students from all over the world who come there for studying purposes. These students are motivated by the UK culture, the economic and political stability and the standard of education. The aim of this research work as mentioned previously is to motivate the potential students who want to come to study in abroad and also to strength the motivational level of the current students. The research is based on the former research work done by the professionals and to get the primary information interviews were conducted with the university students. The variables and the samples are set according to the data provided in the former researches. Variables including motivation and interest behind studying in UK were evaluated and checked for the relationship between them. Conducting interviews with the foreign students was an essential part of the research work because the whole research revolves around their motivation and interest regarding their objective to come and study in England. UK tourism is under a serious threat since the last petrol strike and even after the incident of 9/11. Tourism and especially students who are coming to study in abroad are discouraged now to maintain its former position in the world of tourism UK would have to make a lot of effort especially in the area of communication barriers between the tourism agencies and organization (Russell & Leslie 204) Sampling and data collection: Sample of about 100 students was selected within the university campus. These students belonged to different parts of the world and have completely different backgrounds, religions, languages, cultures and customs. They were all enrolled in different courses offered by the university. Survey instrument and scale validation: Respondents were asked open ended questions so that they may easily and comfortably answer the questions while expressing their views and thoughts. Data analysis and results: Intrinsic factors: The intrinsic factors that motivate students to come to UK to study are: Challenge: coming to UK for study purposes is a complete challenge in itself. Students usually perform well when the achievement is uncertain and they need to work extra hard. But here students should try to make realistic and meaningful goals. Challenge also plays a very essential role in building up ones confidence and personality characteristics. In UK universities the oversea students are someone else when they come and when there return they possess a completely different personality. Facing challenges in UK make them able to face the future challenges as well (Robbins 165).. Curiosity: some students come to UK because they feel curiosity about it since someone from their forefather is a UK graduate therefore they also want to try this thing. These students have a clear idea about studying in UK but they have never experienced it so out of curiosity they just want to do this. The curiosity must be dealt with cautiously become some students come here for only enjoyment purposes because at first they were curious about the UK culture not the study environment that they maintain here (Russell & Leslie 300). Control: students who come from the third world countries wants to control the situation they live in because they believe in cause and effect relationship. They know that if they have a degree from UK then there are more chances of their excellence in the workplace. They UK degrees really help the individuals the control the present and future situations that they or their families are facing. Controlling ultimately results in self satisfaction and confidence (Jones, Selby & Sterling 82). Fantasy: for many of them it is a fantasy or a dream that they have seen since children hood. They see UK in movies or in news and develop a whole fantasy world within themselves of coming and studding here. These students waste some extra time in getting out of their fantasy world. Maintain fantasy for some realistic purpose is good but living in that fantasy world without any real struggle can result in disasters. Competition: throughout the world the workplace competition is increasing very fast. If you want to achieve higher career goals then you would have to face very intense competition. In this situation if someone is a UK graduate then he has more chances of beating the competition successfully. One can lead the competition or can face the competition only when he has something extraordinary in their profile which is absolutely absent in others profile (Altbach 111). Cooperation: they feel that they would be having more support and cooperation in the uk universities then the one in their own countries which would help them to gain their career goals in a more effective manner. As mentioned above that people of uk and its government support the student organizations and cooperate with them to achieve their collective and individual goals (Altbach 112). Extrinsic factors: The extrinsic factors that motivate students to come to UK to study are as follows: Rewards: students are motivated by the glitter of rewards that they would be getting are completion for their course in UK and these rewards have a great meaning to them. These rewards are material in nature and would be highly effective for their lives. They may include high salary packages, extra resources, higher designations apart from this the degree itself is a great reward for them (Lynch 100). Punishment and guilt: facing punishment or guilt within once own country is really hard but the students who come here for study purposes gets agree to do any job very easily because they know that what they are doing here that would not cause any punishment for themselves and if they faced it then also they would not be facing it in front of everyone (Jossey-Bass 13) How to strength the motivation: One thing is pretty much clear that it is the need of oversea students to come to UK for the educational purposes but there are many forces which de-motivate these students and put hurdles in their way to success. The tiring visa procedure: it happens that students get the admission in the universities but they fail to get visa easily. The government of their own country asks for bribery without which they do not precede the visa documentation and other work (Scott & Browning 78). Accommodation issues: one of the major issues for students who come to UK is the accommodation which is very expensive or in other way they have to share one room with four or more room mates. This is something really distracting for students who come solely for studding purposes. Job issues: the oversea students need to get a job along with their student visa because living in a foreign country is very expensive. Students who want to come to England also get de-motivated because of non-availability of work. However the government of UK is playing its role in facilitating them with all the possible job opportunities but still availability to work and student visa is a big issue for the oversea students. Difficulty with coping up the failure: over sea students do not have the moral support of their families and friends to face the failures. Therefore they have extreme difficulty in remaining motivated and focused towards their studies (Ashe Higher Education Report 80) Effort towards the achievement: the oversea students need to show a continuous effect towards achievement. They must recall all the time the rewards of the hard work and it benefits that they will be enjoying throughout their lives (Niblett 4). Extrinsic factors sometimes also strength the intrinsic factors: they must enjoy their studies and their time in UK with their new friends and mates and should try to convert all the extrinsic factors into intrinsic once.
