Executive Summary

The course entitled “How do Great Managers Improve Job Satisfaction, Commitment, and Motivation?" which was covered on week three had a great impact to my future life in that it helped me understanding how to manage people and foster collaboration. This course emphasized on job satisfaction and employees motivation, whereby it entailed the following concepts: career development, relationships with management, compensation and benefits, work environment, engagement opinions, engagement behaviors, and conditions for engagement. Respectful treatment of all employees at all levels was highly rated in this course. The major benefit of this course is that it equips one with greater understanding of leadership roles and how to collaborate with employees towards creating a suitable culture. Managers have to carry out proper management and motivational strategies when handling new managers for better outcome in the organization (Green at al, 2009). Actually I realized that as a leader it is important to apply the concepts that help in creating a suitable culture for the organization as a whole. As a future leader, the ideas I gained from this course will help me come up with proper strategic plans and support my employees appropriately for better productivity. Beside the course discussed on week three, I also managed to acquire some management skills and how to foster collaboration in an organization from the course we discussed on week four which was about how great managers give constructive feedback. It dwelt on how coaching and mentoring employees can help in improving the organizational culture. Consequently, it is worth noting that the positive skills I gained outweighed the negative concepts. As a leader, it is important to value feedback from employees and therefore coming up with employee feedback structure can help in strengthening the link between the manager and its employees (Goldsmith, 2002).

Basically, out of the course I managed to gain leadership roles, proper decision making and creation of organizational culture and management of employees. It is out of these concepts that leaders and managers facilitate positive social change and productivity in the organization. The topic has helped me answer some questions that might arise in the future such as ways of motivating employees for productivity in an organization. It is out of the struggles of the leadership team that organization is managed appropriately and therefore I have learnt on how to collaborate with leadership team and structure a good organizational culture (Colquitt, Lepine, & Wesson, 2013). To manage an organization properly, one has to emphasize on feedback forwarding, employee motivation, functional teams and ethical, legal conduct.

Personal and Professional Life

The secretive and intensive nature of Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Agents where they enhance safety of America and the world as a whole has propelled me toward becoming part of the team. The main reason why am aiming at joining CIA at the pinnacle of my career is to make a difference and find something that I can relate with as my purpose in life.

For one to join CIA, he/ she must have leadership skills, good efforts that stem from solid career goals and objectives as well as personal development and it is because of these that I have enrolled for MBA course. Besides, am also working towards becoming a mentor and coach for our youth; educating and inspiring them towards those career and educational goals. To create a better relationship with my family and ensure that it remains enduring source of happiness, I will share my time with them and discuss family issues. I have recognized that the most powerful motivator isn’t money but an opportunity to learn, grow in responsibilities, contribute, and be recognized. Every goal that I’ve set in place is for the growth and stability of my family. Being that I value integrity, values, and morals, I can predict the path through which my goals are leading me to. The means towards achieving this is through defining what I stand for and drawing the line in a safe place to ensure that I am always practicing a clear sense of purpose.

Action Plan

In this paper, I will provide an action plan on how I intend to achieve my career and personal aspirations towards joining CIA and getting up the rank for leadership position in a cyber-security program.

Goals

Goal one: Join CIA – Cyber Crime Program

Goal Two: Becoming a Founder of an organization that supports our youth, dedicated father and role model to all young African-American men.”

Objectives and Action Plan

  • To find acquiring reasonable education and knowledge
    • My aim is to obtain transferable skills, embrace networking, and enhance my employability rate.
    • I’ve enrolled for MBA course which will help me attain education and knowledge skills.
    • Enrolling for MBA course will allow me to meet and mingle with professionals from a different background thus networking.
  • Ways of meeting people in the field
    • Creating business cards, website and resumes as a way of interacting with people
    • Attending seminars and workshops
    • Using social sites to share personal contacts
    • Attending career affairs and specialized training sessions.
    • Utilizing career discussions forums with peers and professionals at Walden University.
  • Join CIA – Cyber Crime Program
    • Use the placement facility of Walden University to secure an internship with CIA right after completing MBA course.
    • Research and apply for positions matching my competencies.
  • Becoming a mentor and guidance
    • Provide the necessary encouragement and support to propel learners into their career goals (Maccoby, 2010).
    • Looking for new graduates expecting to join the same field and provide guidance (Baek-Kyoo, Sushko, & McLean, 2012).
    • Volunteer at an educational institute.
  • Wealth Maximization
    • Development goals with indicating how he intends to maximize wealth creation
    • Equipping myself with entrepreneurship skills
    • Interacting with managers where we share investment ideas in stocks, farming, or supplies.

At the end of my course where am learning management skills and leadership roles, I am confident in that I will be able to posses the following strengths.

  • Communication comes hand in hand with the organization: posses organization communication skills

Weaknesses

  • Focusing on Details for so long distracts me from getting the bigger picture.
  • Domineering: too focused on doing it "my way."
  • Lack of Foreign Languages mastering skills for international communication
  • Self-centered resulting to disappointment when things are done in the wrong way.
    • Personal weakness
  • Over dependence: I prefer working in groups or alongside someone.
  • I do value my time outside of work more than I should.
  • Loss of focus: Staying focused on one task for a long time is hard for me

Opportunity

Carrying out self analysis can help in realizing if I truly have the necessary skills and abilities. After the class work, I will be able to analyze myself and determine if the skills I have acquired can help in achieving my dreams.

Through the strengths that I posses, it will be easier for me to realize if I will be marketable in my field at the time I will be through with my course. Being that communication and technical writing skills are some of my strengths, I will exploit the opportunity of reaching many people and develop more skills required for my future career. Out of these added advantages am having I will be able to carry out the following:

  • To lead by example and show my children the outcome of hard work.
  • I have the opportunity to acquire liberal education and knowledge thus will help me meet the educational requirements for goal one.
  • Growth- to leadership and continue to protect my country
  • To mentor and share my experiences

Threats

The major threats I will be facing in tackling both professional and personal issues are that most of my time will be consumed by my career thus not getting enough time for my family members as CIA has more than 40 hours a week of working. Again another problem is that by the time I will be through with my studies, I might not have enough skills for the job.

Interests

  • Making a difference in life

Out of the skills I will be able to gain at the end of my course that is social skills, I will try reaching so many people and make them positively view life. Spending time with friends and family members will not only benefit me but also them in that they will realize the importance of having. Coming up social activities which brings people together will be part of my strategy of making a difference in life.

  • Coaching and mentoring

Very little is known about MBA, and therefore to create awareness, I will try reaching youths who might be having interest in the course but due to lack of information do not know the way forward.

  • Proper Management

Once I have achieved my dream of becoming a leader in an organisation, I will practice good management skills towards productivity and customer satisfaction. The knowledge I have leant in class equipped me with leadership skills thus my main goal will be to create a strong link with employees for smooth communication and feedback.

  • Acquiring Computer and technology skills

Most organizations are becoming globalised through digitization and therefore to remain updated and innovative, I will have to acquire computer and technology skills. These will help my organization to remain competitive in the market and produce modern products.

In conclusion, the course I have enrolled for is going to benefit me in so many ways and therefore calls for total commitment. These courses I have learnt in the last four weeks are very relevant in that I will be able to make a difference in life both socially and professionally. At the end of my studies I will know how to manage time and become a good leader both to employees and customers at large.
