MGT A7 and of the organization Google is one of the famous and big companies of the world. It is an American multinational company. Google was founded in 1998 by Lary Page and Sergery Brin. Presently the company has around 55,419 employees all around the world. The workplace environment of Google always motivates the employees in performing their work efficiently. The firm mainly deals with internet services and various software products. The organizational structure and work culture of Google contribute a lot in its success. The unique HR policies followed by Google facilitate the company in satisfying and retaining its employees. The firm considers its employees as one of its important asset. For this reason it develops and designs every organizational policies and practices in such a way by which the productivity of the employees are increased. In 2014 Google got the award for the best company to get employed. The organization has received this award for fifth time. The company believes in knowledge in based working. For this reason Google is continuously enhancing its environment for satisfying the needs and requirements of its highly talented and knowledgeable employees. Corporate philosophy of the company influences its organizational members in developing creative and new idea. Google has done many acquisitions and partnership for expanding its business. The firm has received various awards for its extra ordinary performances. For many years Google is engaged in enhancing its human resource policies for generating high income (Joshi 79). Earlier the company used to focus on its operational and production processes but now it is emphasizing on managing its human resource effectively. This facilitates Google in becoming as one of the best workplace. Reason for Selecting the Company The concerned company is considered as one of the best organization to work for. Fortune magazine awarded it as the best company to work. The company received this award for the 4th time and the honor reflects the effort of Google in creating a unique workplace and culture. It offers various facilities to its employees such as gourmet food for free on the site laundry, five months maternity leaves for female employees and commuting transports with internet facility. The employees of Google are motivated, they believe that their work positively influences the lives of others; it offers various benefits for the families of the employees. The company introduced the concept of smart perks which includes on site doctors, gourmet cafeteria food, haircutters for satisfying the employees, the opportunity for career growth is very high. A friendly environment is created so that the employees who don’t know each other can interact easily. The concerned company believes in the concept that a happy and satisfied employee can contribute effectively and efficiently in increasing the productivity and performance of the organization. The facilities offered by the company are much superior as compared to the other organizations. The benefits it provides to its employees mainly includes on site children facilities, transportation services, health care services, sport facilities, pets of the employees are allowed, laundry and dry cleaning services, creative time program numerous holidays and leave days and other miscellaneous benefits. It is successful in attracting the best talents by offering some best and outstanding benefits (Dowell 21-27). How the organization attracts, develops, and retains its’ human capital Mission The mission of Google is to organize and gather world’s information. The company has make information accessible for all. It serves various purposes and needs of the people. The company ties to provide useful information with the help of its talented and highly skilled employees. Organizational values and goals The company considers its employees and customers as its most important resources. For this reason it tries to provide best experiences to its users and employees. Values: Google recruits highly talented people and expect them to deliver extra ordinary performance. The company respects its employees and creates an environment where they can flourish creative ideas. Innovating new technologies is one of the important values of the company. Google aims to build world’s best technical products. The firm expects its employees to love and enjoy their work. The organization has a challenging work environment and its helps to increase the productivity of the employees. Google celebrate the success of the employees. Google believes in the value that its employees should actively participate in various organizational processes for increasing the productivity of the company. Goals: Google focuses on improving its infrastructure for making its employees more productive. The company wants to become the best search engine which can provide wide range of information and data to the users. The firm wants to retain its highly skilled and talented employees for developing many new products and services. Google desires to improve the commitment level of its employees. For this reason the company has implemented many new policies and practices with the organization which motivates employees for delivering their best performance. Personality, abilities, or competencies required for employment The employees working in Google need to have a strong personality. They must be capable enough for doing team work. An employee of Google needs to posses good communicational qualities. This is because he has to do teamwork and communicate frequently with other for developing or implementing any idea or process. Therefore effective communication is required for making his work productive. Leadership skills are required for Google employees. It will help them in handling different situations and work processes easily. The persons working in Google need to have a vast knowledge regarding technology and various products which are used and manufactured by the company. The employee must be competent enough in applying his theoretical knowledge into practical field. He should have some unique skills and capabilities which will facilitate the company in developing new products and services. Organizational culture Google is famous for its culture. The culture of Google facilitates the company in establishing an employee friendly working environment. Various benefits and facilities are provided to the employees for making them satisfied with their job. The senior managers of Google do not exert pressure on the employees for doing jobs. They always guide the employees and support them for achieving the goals and objectives of the company. The managers or the organizational leaders of Google do not interfere in the work of employees. Motivate and reward of employees Google motivates its employees by providing wide number of opportunities, benefits and facilities to its employees. The company tries every possible way of satisfying its employees. For improving the behavior of the employees within the organization the company provides flexibilities of working hours, free meals, perks etc. Moreover the employees of Google are allowed to take power nap and bring pets in the office. By implementing these policies the company motivates and supports its employees for delivering good performance. The firm provides effective training to its employees for developing their skills and knowledge. Huge career opportunities are provided by Google to its organizational members. Unique things of Google compared to other organizations The benefits and facilities which are provided by Google are very unique. Usually these types of facilities are not provided by any other companies. The facilities like power nap, perks, bringing pets in the office, free meals are not provided by most of the organizations. The companies mainly focus on the ways through which they can generate profit. They try to make minimize various expenses towards their employees. But Google considers its human capital as most important things of its success. For this reason the company continuously implements many new benefits for satisfying and retaining its employees. Like Google many other companies are trying to increasing its productivity by providing many opportunities and benefits to their organizational members. Best practices at Google Google is constantly rated amongst the top when it comes to naming the best place to work at. There are several reasons behind this fact. Google always tries to create a workplace environment for the employees that they find enjoyable to work at. Google tries to create a workplace for the employee that ultimately helps in fostering innovation. Some of the facilities that Google provides to the employees are what any employee can ever dream of. However the logic of the company behind providing these facilities to the employees is to ensure that the employees are productive to the maximum extent and deliver value to the organization. Laszlo Bock who heads the people operations department at Google says that what the company does for the employees is actually backed by data and analytics in the field. Some of the practices that Google follows at workplace are what is given in the best practice guide. To start with Google lets its employees be themselves. For instance Google seldom interferes into the work done by the employees and lets them do their work that is assigned to them in their own pace. In order to boost innovations Google provides or creates the room in the officer that supports innovation (Thomas and Anis 820-825). Google allows the employees of the company to have as much food as they want. They are allowed to bring in their pets into the office. It is not required of the employees to wear formals at the workplace. Instead they can wear whatever they feel like and work at place in the office. Google takes care of the laundry, of personal care of the employees. Additionally Google allows the employees to have a power nap so that they can have greater concentration at the work. Google also helps in discovering and magnifying people’s strength. Google encourages its employees to pursue any education of their choice even if it does not have any relevance to the work that they are involved in at Google. The company also allows the employees of the company to work in the project they like once in a while. Another best practice that Google follows at the workplace is to stand more than the shareholder’s value. This is exemplified in the fact that Google does more and is valued much higher than the value of the company as defined by the shares of the company. Evaluation of investment into human capital The company treats the human capital of the company as an asset. It is exemplified by the fact that the company is constantly rated as the best place to work at for consecutive years. It is found that the company creates an environment for the employees of the organization in which they are allowed to work in their own style and pace. The company follows all the principles that define best practices at work and much more than that. The company cares for the employees of the organization and strives to create an environment for them which boosts the creativity of the employees and helps them to work for longer time with great productivity. The company minute attention to the nutrition quality of even the food that is consumed by the employees. Whereas it is found that the company provides free food to the employees of the organization, it is also found that it ensures leveling of the food and placing nutritional foods nearer so that employees consume the nutritional foods and remain healthy for a long time (Batt, and Alexander 697-710). It is also found that the company regularly does research into the fact about what it takes to boost the creativity of the employees. The company pays minute attention to the design of the workplace including the design of the ceiling, the floor etc. all in a bid to improve the performance of the employees at the workplace. The company provides the employees of the organization enough opportunities to boost the creativity so that they can work at their own pace and dedication. The founders of Google have always tried to ensure that the work environment at the company should be filled with fun and enjoyment. In fact the work environment, the atmosphere and the work culture art the company supports this view. This is the reason which makes the employees of the company proud of the fact that they work for the company and helps the employees enjoy their work at the company.
