Case Study Type of paper Number of words The Happy Hotels have labor instability as the main challenge that can even ruin its dream as it expands operations. The nature of the labor problems faced seems complex and requires professionalism to resolve so that the company can have a prosperous future. Due its expanding nature that has seen it boast of 20 branches, it is necessary that the company employ human resource managers to tackle the problems faced by employees. Considering its size, the company should have a team of human resource managers employed on permanent basis rather than the single managers to single handedly run each hotel establishment.

Human resource managers are important in organization as they assist in effective selection of job applicants to ensure recruitment of competent employees1. Professional human resource managers have training on how to select and evaluate employees during recruitments. 2They understand elements to look for in an employee to ensure recruitment of only competent workers who are able adhere to the company’s standards to help achieve the necessary goals. Human resource managers are also important elements for organizations as they facilitate training of employees and ensure employee development.

In many cases, human resource managers understand the missions and periodical targets of their businesses. In that case, they organize for areas of training for the employees to attain positions to help achieve the desired targets. 3They also organize for employee development in accordance with the demands of job so ensure maximum possible job satisfaction. General Managers cannot perform this function effectively as can the HRM. In fact, the management of Holiday Hotels has failed as they consistently employ workers who lack the necessary competence to help the company maintain the desired standards.

4Another reason that Holiday Hotels should employ human resource manager is that the officers will help in ensuring compliance to the law. HRM usually understand various labor practices and laws and are very instrumental in advising their respective companies about proper legal and ethical practices. Legal issues that are mandatory to the knowledge of HRM include laws on minimum wage, health benefits, paid vacations, necessary tax laws, and workweek hours. 5With human resource managers in place, Holiday Hotels will able to reduce if not overcome the challenge of increased sick in calls.

Human resource managers are able to reduce such challenges by identifying proper compensatory and benefiting strategies. The managers understand skills to negotiate for sustainable terms with employees so to increase motivation and satisfaction. For instance, the managers negotiate with workers for flexible working time, skill development, recognition programs, leaves and even medical insurance. Having the human resource managers will help foster motivation even among the managers who have low job satisfactions.

In the case of Holiday Hotels, a team of human resource managers employed on permanent basis and operating from the Birmingham headquarters is better than having single HRM in each hotel branch. A team of human resource managers is important so to ensure reduction of monotony that can arise due to working in the same environment every day. Having the team at the headquarters will enable deployment of officers to different stations on different days. a manager in each hotel may suffer from work monotony, which may work to lower motivation and job satisfaction.

6In addition, a team of manager at the headquarters is important in ensuring efficient and sustainable resolution of challenges. Work as team enables collection and discussion of challenges faced at different stations7. Members of the team are able to combine their innovativeness and skills in solving problems to ensure effective resolution of challenges faced across the different establishments of Holiday Hotels. A human resource manager in each station may lack sufficient options to resolve some challenges in their organizations.

The reason that the company should employ these staff on permanent basis relates to issues of job security. 8Employment on a permanent basis assures workers about job safety and stability, which fosters commitment to work towards fulfillment of the company’s goals and missions. 9Permanent human resource management team will consider the interest of the organization as its own, and ensure working for optimum benefits.
