Reflection on Personal skills development By + Reflection on personal skill development Throughout the course, I have had a great experience and learning in perfecting skills in critical writing. This has come to be through a number of combined activities and efforts towards developing criticizing skills. The course enabled me to gather the knowledge needed in order for one to analyze a piece of writing. From the course, I appreciate the fact that, one has to go beyond the author’s life by having critical approach towards any text one comes across. To gain expertise in the field, a number of assignments given through the course led to my skill development. We had quite a number of activities in the classroom that led to my understanding on how to comment on any text. Class teachings were crucial tools in skills development. For me the most important time was when I got revision form the lecturer, which helped me in developing on the skills that I had not mastered well. The professor corrections were pivotal and were used to assess the state at which I was hence planning on the way forward and setting new goals. However, I managed to steadily keep reassessing my goals and objective, a factor that led to my learning of newer skills every moment. My roles in these activities were to keep steady in pursuit for the skills in critical writing skills. I have improved my understanding in what it means to be a critical writer over time through the rigorous practice that I had through the course. My main role was to ensure that I follow the professor instruction, pay attention to the classroom teaching and at the same time ensure that I get involved in a number of activities that are geared towards perfecting the skills. My inner motivation and desire to gain skills in the field drove me towards developing these skills. Having learned the process of analyzing text comprehensively, I now feel that I can handle a number of texts and come up with numerous conclusions. I now understand that it is important for one to go beyond the author’s life in order for him or her to understand the real meaning of the context and relate it with the daily lives. This is of essence for the fact that, not all texts are plain and straightforward. Most of the literature and the artistic writings need scrutiny and intensive critique in order for them to get the real message that the writer is passing across. In fact, criticizing, text increases the confidence that one has over a particular text for they have a deeper understanding of what it really is. Furthermore, it increases the rate of understanding while going through any particular text irrespective of its complexity in the way that it is presented to the readers (Anseel et al. 2009). The skill that I have gained will definitely be useful to me in my workplace since it has enabled me to gain much understanding of any text that I would like to critics. It will lead to my perfection of the writing skills hence leading to the development of a much more precise and comprehended analysis of any work that I get to read or analyze. In fact, it is the most important skill one needs in order to produce thrilling work that will gain acceptance from readers hence leading to further development in the career. The quality of the work done will be a major determinant on the successes that I will have in my career. Therefore, this skill is one of the most important skills that I need to keep growing in writing career. I will now need to further practice on my analytical skills by tackling further assignments and seeking clarification from my superiors or expertise in the field. It is important that there is continuous development in the field by exerting individual efforts and seeking further clarification. There are new ideas and developments that occur in the field each day. Therefore it will be important that one keeps self in the continuous process of learning in so as to keep at par with the most recent and conventional way of handling the issue at hand. Initially before getting to learn on how to comment on texts, I did not question any text that I read. I only went by the ideologies of the author as he or she says. Nevertheless, this has greatly changed over the past and I have come to appreciate the importance of critically analyzing text and not to take it plainly. It is important to go beyond the author’s life and give ones opinion. I have managed to learn on how to express ones opinion with supportive evidence in a case where one disagrees with the authors’ point of view. Through the critical writing skills, I have obtained this very vital skill in ensuring that I gain support from other readers so that they subscribe to my point of view. Opposing the author’s argument, needs unambiguous acumen on the subject matter before giving an opinion and supportive evidence on that particular topic. Self-awareness and competence has grown in me overtime from the new skills developed within my profession. I can face a text with much confidence that I can criticize it and gain a deeper understanding of what the author meant. At the same time, when writing my text, I have managed to learn the skills needed to present the information in a way that is clear and more understood to the readers. I always have in mind the possible interpretations it may receive from its readers hence enabling me to clarify the issue and ensuring that the correct message is passed on to the readers. Concisely, the learning process has been very important in my career. The skills and knowledge that I have obtained is fundamental in professional success. I have a much greater zeal in progressing in critical writing, since I have managed to approach most work, criticize them, and come up with concrete point of view, which is well supported by facts.
