Good communication skills are a must for any career or position. With the advancements in technology, there are many ways in which a person can communicate, ranging from one-to-one talks to emails to video conferencing. It is therefore imperative that a person knows how to get his point across in the best possible manner. While working as an intern, I had the opportunity to interact with a large number of people including the clients and the co-workers. This gave me ample opportunity to hone my communication skills since each of them had different demands. Furthermore, for the first time I got a chance to learn email etiquettes since I had to report through emails about the daily workings to my immediate senior. D. In 50 words or more what skills did you develop/demonstrate as a result of working on this objective? While working on this objective, I learned a lot of things but the most important of them was that I got a chance to hone my observational skills. My observational skills were increased since communication not only involves verbal exchange but also a mixture of emotions, expressions, moods and gestures. E. In 50 words or more how did this objective benefit the organization/company? While developing communication skills, it was important to communicate effectively with supervisors of the HR department as well as with people from the other departments. Good communication skills meant that the flow of information was smooth and organized and effective communication among different departments helped consolidate the workings of the entire company. While working in an organization or even as a team, one has to be open to many different ideas and perspectives. Whether they are clients, bosses, colleagues, people often tend to change their minds. Similarly there may be unforeseen circumstances which can affect the existing plans and therefore one has to be adaptable and flexible enough in order to mould oneself according to the situation. While working as in intern, I had a lot of people to report to and sometimes the work demanded more rigor and time than what I had initially expected. I quickly adjusted to the environment and was able to work adaptively according to the needs and demands of the organization. D. In 50 words or more what skills did you develop/demonstrate as a result of working on this objective? While completing this objective, I got ample opportunities to increase my knowledge and understanding of the workings of an organization. Exposure to different departments as well as widely varying tasks, I was able to become more knowledgeable about a professional setting, thereby making me more experienced and responsible. E. In 50 words or more how did this objective benefit the organization/company? I was a part of the HR team and thus had to cater to a large number of people within the company. This objective allowed me to work on different tasks with ease and during peak days I was able to work with little instructions from the supervisors. This helped reduce the workload and in a way was beneficial for the company. Learning Objective 3 A. State learning objective 3. Taking initiatives B. Were you able to accomplish this objective? In a workplace, where hundreds of different things are happening simultaneously, ‘taking initiatives’ is a very important skill to have. A person must be able to work on things by himself without bugging the colleagues. Moreover, in order to learn a person must be proactive and take responsibility of the tasks that demand attention but have few people who can look into it. I was able to incorporate this skill in myself during the internship. I actively took part in activities that were not directly related to my job description. This allowed me to have more knowledge gain a better understanding of the workplace as a whole. D. In 50 words or more what skills did you develop/demonstrate as a result of working on this objective? This objective required patience courage and most importantly the will to act. While taking different initiatives, I demonstrated the ability to lead others in a group. As I actively took the initiatives, I automatically had the responsibility to handle the entire team which allowed me to hone my leadership abilities. E. In 50 words or more how did this objective benefit the organization/company? Being able to take initiative, I quickly became an active member of the workforce of the company. I was able to handle tasks of diverse nature with greater ease and understanding and was able to complete them in the best possible manner. Therefore while learning this objective, I proved to be an important asset for the HR team. Learning Objective 4 A. State learning objective 4. Interpersonal skills B. Were you able to accomplish this objective? (Yes, no, partially) Yes C. Describe in 100 words or more your objective and give specific details of how you completed the objective. For any professional workplace, having good interpersonal skills are priceless since they enable people to understand others in the workplace. Excellent interpersonal skills are necessary for setting up professional relationships which are vital for career growth. This was my most ‘prized’ objective and I tried in every possible manner to achieve it. I made a mental note to listen carefully to what others say and not merely hear it since most of the time it is the minor details that are crucial to the success of the project at hand. I particularly paid attention to the people’s mood and tried to have effective conversations with them. Also I asked for regular feedbacks from my supervisors which not only helped me monitor my progress but also made me aware of my lacking. D. In 50 words or more what skills did you develop/demonstrate as a result of working on this objective? Interpersonal skills require a multitude of different skills and trying to complete this objective, I learnt a lot of things. Most important of which was to paying attention and listening to what the others are saying. Listening and not only hearing it, makes the person feel important and discussion meaningful which I learnt while I was trying to sharpen my interpersonal skills. E. In 50 words or more how did this objective benefit the organization/company? Seeking good interpersonal skills allowed me to sustain professional relationships with my immediate seniors as well as my colleagues. It therefore made the workplace a friendlier place to work in. And without any reservations, I was able to put in more efforts to the tasks that were assigned to me. Learning Objective 5 A. State learning objective 5. Working in a team B. In a workplace, where every department is interconnected as well as dependent on one another it is important to work as a team rather than as solitary entities. In a team, everybody has different needs and demands and therefore it requires all the objectives mentioned above in order to deal with it. As an intern in the HR department, I had to work in collaboration with my supervisors, colleagues as well as the entire human resource of the company. I took orders, paid attention to the needs of the other team members and tried to remain an active member of the team by consulting and collaborating with others. D. In 50 words or more what skills did you develop/demonstrate as a result of working on this objective? Working in a team requires a mixture of different skills. While working in a team, I learnt the importance of patience and counted it as a very precious skill. A team is made up of individuals and every individual has his own background and his own contribution towards the task at hand. It requires patience to be able to listen and to everyone and work effectively in a team. This is something I learnt and something I really prize. E. In 50 words or more how did this objective benefit the organization/company? Completion of this objective actually demanded putting in more effort to complete the tasks assigned to me. The teamwork prevented disorder and chaos and provided a more systematic and organized approach to finish the task.
