According to him and his colleagues, people management makes the greatest impact on the organizational performance in both public and private sectors and in ‘knowledge-intensive firms’. There is a need for individualism with an edge towards ethical surroundings.
It is the skill and hard work of employees that make the company a success. Undoubtedly there should be a contribution from the employers too. They can provide better conditions, rewards, and appreciative incentives to workers, as a means of encouragement to keep up the good work. Earlier trade unions had a major role to play in the process, but now their clout has decreased tremendously.
“Better Places to Work is concerned with those elements of the design and development of workplaces that the planning system can influence. It explores issues around the location, the public realm, architecture, and linkages. It is based on the principle that well-designed, accessible and pleasant living and working environments are one of the key requirements for creating sustainable communities as set out in The Sustainable Communities Plan "Building for the Future,"
Creating a better place to work is mainly the responsibility of company management. It is their duty to see that workers derive job satisfaction, are away from work stress, do not suffer from work aggression, by developing policies and programs to this effect, so that individual performance is stimulated. They can create the right atmosphere by adopting new methods, new rules, experimenting and getting psychological insight into important, effectible matters.
